CAC receiver announces plans to be Hog Published: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 PRINT E-MAIL In the middle of one season, D. J. Williams was ready to make a decision about a future season. Williams, 6-4, 240, a senior wide receiver and defensive end for Central Arkansas Christian, said Monday that he plans to sign with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Ranked in the top 250 players in the nation by Rivals. com, Williams said he picked Arkansas over Oklahoma State last week and wanted to announce his decision as soon as possible. “I liked Arkansas more,” Williams said. “There was no point in waiting if I already knew where I was going, so I just decided to do it now.”
With high school teams midway through the regular season, Williams said he made the announcement now so he could fully concentrate on the remainder of CAC’s season. Williams has helped CAC reach the state championship game the past two years. The Mustangs won the Class AAA title in 2004 and finished second to Nashville in 2005. Through four games, Williams has caught 11 passes for 113 yards for the Mustangs (2-2 ). He is the team’s leading tackler and has a team-high four sacks. He has also punted five times this season for a 45. 4-yard average. As a junior, Williams caught 55 passes for 745 yards and recorded 91 tackles and 5 sacks. Williams said Arkansas’ coaches plan to use him on offense. “They told me I’d be backing up Ben Cleveland and play mostly at the H-back role, which Peyton Hillis plays,” Williams said. “They told me I could catch pretty good, block and run, which is what I do here.” Williams said he chose Arkansas mainly because of assistant coach Danny Nutt. “The more time I spent talking with Danny Nutt, I realized he’s a really good guy,” Williams said. “He’s a big reason why I chose to go to Fayetteville.” Yesterday's Most Popular 1.
