Front four spearheads sack attack Published: Sunday, October 08, 2006 PRINT E-MAIL AUBURN, Ala. — Sophomore Ernest Mitchell and the Arkansas defensive line put their best foot forward Saturday in the Razorbacks’ 27-10 victory over No. 2 Auburn. Mitchell led a defensive line charge that helped limit Auburn to 60 yards rushing and 213 total yards. Arkansas had five sacks, including one by Mitchell. “It is all footwork all week,” said Mitchell, who started for injured Marcus Harrison. “When we have good footwork all week in practice, we can do what we want to on the line of scrimmage.”
Mitchell’s sack came in the third quarter with Arkansas holding a 24-10 lead. He sacked Auburn’s Brandon Cox for a 7-yard loss, which left Auburn facing second-and-17 from its 32. Auburn’s drive ended when end Jamaal Anderson and tackle Keith Jackson combined to sack Cox at the Arkansas 35 on the last play of the third quarter. “We can do anything we want to do if we put our mind to it,” said Mitchell, who is from nearby Newnan, Ga. “We just came out there ready to play and kept our heads up.” Arkansas struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks last season, but the Razorbacks ’ front four did not have that problem Saturday. “Everybody just came to work this year,” Mitchell said. “We’re playing more as a team.” Mitchell said the Razorbacks are keeping their 4-1 start, 3-0 in the SEC, in perspective. “It’s sweet right now, but we’ve got to keep on to the next week and improving each week,” he said. Mitchell finished with two tackles Saturday, including two for 10 yards in losses, while filling in for Harrison. Harrison will likely be near full strength for next Saturday’s game against Southeast Missouri State in Fayetteville, but Mitchell might have earned more playing time. “Everybody is just coming along and grabbing the rope,” Mitchell said. “We call it grabbing the rope and playing as a team.” 1 Anderson, who had 2 / 2 tackles for 18 yards in losses, was quick to praise the job Mitchell has done in Harrison’s absence. “We have got somewhat of a unity with the defensive line,” Anderson said. “He came and stepped in Marcus Harrison’s shoes. His performance was unexpected. We didn’t know his capabilities were that high. Now that we know that, we have great depth.” Jackson led the Razorbacks with 1. 5 sacks, while Anderson had. 5 and Mitchell grabbed the other one credited to the defensive line. Linebackers Sam Olajubutu and Weston Dacus also had one sack each. More Stories From: OTIS KIRK Yesterday's Most Popular 2.
