FAYETTEVILLE — New Arkansas Coach Dana Altman said he’ll assemble his coaching staff quickly.

Whether that could include a holdover from former coach Stan Heath’s staff has not been determined.

Altman, introduced at Arkansas on Monday, said he should have all three assistant coaches in place in a week to 10 days.

Brian Fish and Darian DeVries, assistants who worked for him at Creighton, will be considered along with others, Altman said. Another of his assistants, Kevin McKenna, left a few days ago to become the Indiana State coach.

Arkansas assistant Dan Hipsher is interested in the Bowling Green coaching job but could be considered for one of the spots on Altman’s staff. So could Glynn Cyprien.

Cyprien would be paid by Arkansas for another year if he’s not kept unless he lands another job because he signed a two-year deal when he was hired last year.

Arkansas assistant Oronde Taliaferro is not likely to return.

None of the Arkansas assistants under Heath could be reached for comment.

Getting a staff together quickly is important because The Real Deal on the Hill, a prominent prep tournament, is this weekend in Fayetteville and signing day is only a couple of weeks away.

Also, the staff will begin doing individual workouts soon with current players to evaluate the talent and determine how to build a system around those players.
