Inside the matchups Published: Sunday, September 23, 2007 PRINT E-MAIL QUARTERBACKS Kentucky senior Andre’ Woodson threw for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns, set an NCAA record for most consecutive passes without an interception (296 and counting ) and led a fourthquarter rally, hitting Keenan Burton with a 35-yard pass for what turned out to be the game-winning score. Arkansas junior Casey Dick threw two interceptions and couldn’t hit big passes in the second half after the Razorbacks fell behind. ADVANTAGE Kentucky RUNNING BACKS Arkansas juniors Darren McFadden and Felix Jones were ill with a virus, but combined for 306 rushing yards as both went over 100 rushing yards in the same game for the sixth time. Kentucky’s backs were hit hard with injuries, but fourth-team tailback Derrick Locke rushed for 48 big yards late in the game to help the Wildcats win. ADVANTAGE Arkansas
RECEIVERS Kentucky senior Keenan Burton missed some practice time this week because of an ankle injury, but looked full speed in catching 2 touchdown passes. Steve Johnson led the Wildcats with 7 catches for 111 yards. Arkansas’ wideouts combined for just 5 catches for 69 yards. Freshman tight end D. J. Williams had the Razorbacks’ longest reception, 24 yards on Arkansas’ first offensive snap. Things went downhill from there. ADVANTAGE Kentucky OFFENSIVE LINE The Razorbacks’ front controlled the line in the first half to open holes for the running game. Casey Dick had good protection for the most part. Kentucky quarterback Andre Woodson was under heavy pressure much of the game, but the Kentucky line controlled things in the fourth quarter when the Wildcats mounted their comeback. ADVANTAGE Even DEFENSIVE LINE Arkansas end Antwain Robinson returned a fumble for a touchdown. Tackle Fred Bledsoe, making his first start for the Razorbacks, took down Andre’ Woodson in the end zone for a safety. Kentucky failed to mount much of a pass rush until late in the game when it was clear the Razorbacks had to throw. ADVANTAGE Arkansas LINEBACKERS Kentucky senior outside linebacker Wesley Woodyard had a team-high 17 tackles and forced a fumble late in the first half that Trevard Lindley returned for a touchdown Arkansas went with just one linebacker much of the game to play extra defensive backs ADVANTAGE Kentucky DEFENSIVE BACKS Kentucky cornerback Trevard Lindley returned a Michael Smith fumble 66 yards for a touchdown, and free safety Marcus McClinton and cornerback Paul Warford each had interceptions. Arkansas played six and sometimes seven defensive backs to combat Kentucky’s multiple-receiver sets but couldn’t stop the Wildcats when it mattered most. ADVANTAGE Kentucky SPECIAL TEAMS Arkansas ’ Felix Jones returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown after Ramon Broadway downed a Jeremy Davis punt at the Kentucky 3 to set up a safety. Arkansas ’ Jerell Norton recovered a fumbled kickoff return, but the Razorbacks couldn’t cash it in for a score. Alex Tejada was 2 of 2 on field-goal attempts.
