McFadden, Jones do job, punch out early Published: Sunday, September 30, 2007 PRINT E-MAIL FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas tailbacks Darren McFadden and Felix Jones took it easy Saturday. They just didn’t let up on North Texas. Both spent the entire second half on the sideline after a productive first two quarters in the Razorbacks’ 66-7 victory against the Mean Green on Saturday. McFadden and Jones got their contributions out of the way early, combining for 354 all-purpose yards. They came out of the locker room at halftime sporting red, fitted Razorbacks caps and were nowhere near their helmets for the final two quarters after McFadden ran for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries. Jones had 7 carries for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns. “That’s some serious talent,” North Texas Coach Todd Dodge said after watching the duo continue to move up the Arkansas career rushing list. Mc-Fadden is now second in Razorbacks history and Jones is 10 th.
It was the 16 th 100-yard rushing performance for McFadden. Jones topped 100 yards for the 10 th time, a feat that amazed not just Dodge, but the duo’s teammates. “That goes to show how good and really talented they are,” right guard Robert Felton said. “They didn’t even need a half to get over 100 yards. Those guys are really good.” There were a number of highlightreel worthy moments for both, despite limited time on the field. Jones was impressive as he tiptoed down the sideline on a 71-yard touchdown run that put Arkansas up 38-0 with 7: 06 remaining in the first half. It was reminiscent of other great Jones runs, but he seemed unimpressed when asked about it after the game. Even though the play was reviewed by officials, Jones said he never doubted he stayed inbounds. “I was just trying to make a play,” Jones said. “I knew I was inbounds. I was just having fun out there.” Jones, who had to be coaxed into talking with media members a week earlier after the Razorbacks’ 42-29 loss to Kentucky, was all smiles after the game. McFadden’s highlight-reel moments came on a pair of runs where he used his trademark stiff-arm to level North Texas cornerback Antoine Bush, including one where he knocked off the defender’s helmet. McFadden grinned when asked if he’d ever knocked an opponent’s helmet off with a stiff-arm. “I don’t know. Probably so,” McFadden said. Both knew an early exit was a possibility. It was something neither said they looked forward to until they were on the sidelines, watching their teammates put the finishing touches on a game in which the Razorbacks rolled up the second-most yards in school history. Arkansas gouged the Mean Green for 713 yards, including 446 yards on the ground. McFadden was so well-rested that he had enough energy to run the length of the field to celebrate a 100-yard Jerell Norton interception return in the closing minutes. “It’s the greatest thing anytime you’re over there on the sideline with a ballcap on laughing,” McFadden said. “You know the team is doing great. It’s a great feeling.” More Stories From: CHRIS BAHN Yesterday's Most Popular 1. HOG FUTURES JERRY MITCHELL : Hurricane brings Mitchell to Hogs 2.
