Pelphrey: Sanchez asks to be redshirted

Published: Saturday, November 10, 2007 PRINT E-MAIL

Arkansas freshman forward Michael Sanchez, who figured to have limited minutes with the Razorbacks boasting a deep and veteran front line, will redshirt this season, Coach John Pelphrey confirmed after Friday's victory over Wofford. Sanchez, a touted recruit from Springdale Har-Ber High School, discussed the possibility of sitting out this season with his family and Pelphrey. "This is what Mike wants to do. I talked to Mike a lot about it because he asked me what I thought," Pelphrey said. "I was able to share with him some very real things because I did the same thing [as a player at Kentucky ]. Michael is more ready to play as a freshman than I was. There are just a number of guys in the program that are older. From my experience, there's no question he's going to be a better player in his fifth year than his first year."
