New Orleans forward signs with Hogs Published: Friday, November 16, 2007 PRINT E-MAIL Arkansas got expected good news Thursday when New Orleans Holy Cross forward Brandon Moore signed his national letter of intent to play basketball for the Razorbacks. Forward Andre Clark, 6-10, 215 pounds, of Mendenhall (Miss. ) Genesis One plans to sign with the Razorbacks during the early signing period, which ends Wednesday, but is talking with his mom and trying to decide which particular day he’ll sign with Arkansas. Moore signed with Arkansas during a ceremony at Holy Cross High School. “Unfortunately, we don’t have gym right now because of [Hurricane ] Katrina,” said Moore. “I signed under an oak tree at my high school. My family and teammates were there. They had a cake with a Razorback sign and I had an Arkansas T-shirt on. My mom is proud of me, because not many people in my family have gone to college.”
Moore 6-9, 215 pounds, played at Episcopal Collegiate in Little Rock during his sophomore season while living in Little Rock after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina. He averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks and 2 steals a game last year at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans. Moore averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds, 7 blocks and 2 steals in the state playoffs. Moore’s strengths are his ballhandling and shooting along with his ability to block shots. He said he felt relieved after the signing. “It’s just a huge load off my shoulders,” he said. “Now I can just focus on going to school and be an average student. I can work on my grades and everything.” Moore, who led Holy Cross to the Louisiana Class 5 A quarterfinals last year, said he received interest from Kentucky, LSU, Wichita State, Southern Cal and Ole Miss. UA WOMEN The Lady Razorbacks signed their second prospect Thursday. Carlisle guard Julie Inman, 5-9, signed her letter of intent in the school auditorium. Inman joins 6-1 forward Ashley Daniels of Coldwater, Miss., who signed Wednesday. The Lady Razorbacks expect 5-9 guard Lyndsay Harris of Hoover, Ala., to sign today. Two 6-1 forwards, Jamesha Townsend of Bonita Vista (Calif. ) Chula Vista and Quistelle Williams of East Kentwood, Mich., are expected to sign with Arkansas during the early signing period. The Lady Razorbacks hope to sign seven, possibly eight prospects for the 2008 class. UALR WOMEN Coach Joe Foley and the UALR women’s basketball team signed three more prospects Thursday. The Trojans added 6-2 forward Kiana McCarty of Brandon, Miss.; 5-10 forward Megan Williams of Houston James Madison, and 6-2 forward Britteni Williams of St. Louis Incarnate Word. Thursday’s signees join 6-0 center Marian Kursh of Fort Smith Northside and 5-11 forward Channon Haywood of St. Louis Hazelwood East, both of whom signed with UALR on Wednesday.
