Here is a rundown: ARKANSAS 17, NO. 13 MISSISSIPPI STATE 10 IN 1 OVERTIME Nov. 18, 2000, Starkville, Miss Tailback Brandon Holmes rushed for two touchdowns, including the gamewinning score, and the Razorbacks broke Mississippi State’s 16-game home winning streak to keep alive their bowl hopes. Arkansas linebacker Jermaine Petty stopped Ole Miss tight end Doug Zeigler 2 yards short of the goal line on a two-point conversion to end the longest game in NCAA history. The game was nationally televised by ESPN, and by the next day, football fans across America knew about Arkansas freshman quarterback Matt Jones, who accounted for 116 of the Hogs’ 157 yards in the overtimes. TENNESSEE 41, ARKANSAS 38, 6 OTS Oct, 5, 2002, Knoxville, Tenn. It appeared the No. 5 Volunteers would win comfortably when they led by 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the Razorbacks stormed back and tied it 17-17 on Matt Jones’ 92-yard touchdown pass to Richard Smith with three minutes left in regulation. David Carlton’s 47-yard field goal put Arkansas ahead 38-35 in the sixth overtime, but the Vols won on Casey Clausen’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten on a wheel route. ARKANSAS 34, ALABAMA 31, 2 OTS Sept. 27, 2003, Tuscaloosa, Ala. Arkansas rallied from a 21-point deficit in the third quarter to tie it 31-31 on Matt Jones’ 3-yard touchdown pass to Richard Smith with three seconds left in regulation. Chris Balseiro’s 19-yard field goal won it for the Razorbacks in the second overtime. ARKANSAS 71, KENTUCKY 63, 7 OTS Nov. 1, 2003, Lexington, Ky. The Razorbacks tied their NCAA record for the longest game and finished with 605 yards in total offense, including 196 rushing yards by DeCori Birmingham. Matt Jones’ 25-yard touchdown pass to Birmingham and two-point conversion pass to Jason Peters provided the winning scores in the seventh overtime. The Razorbacks held on to win when Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen fumbled on a fourth-down play and safety Tony Bua recovered the ball. The teams combined for the most plays (202 ) and points (134 ) in an overtime game. ARKANSAS 24, ALABAMA 23, 2 OTS Sept. 23, 2006, Fayetteville Arkansas freshmen Mitch Mustain and Ben Cleveland connected on an 11-yard touchdown pass to tie it 23-23 and Jeremy Davis hit the extra point to win it after missing an extra point attempt earlier in the game. Alabama walk-on freshman kicker Leigh Tiffin came into the game 7 of 9 on field goal attempts, but was 1 of 4 against Arkansas and missed the extra point try after the Tide went ahead 23-17 in the second overtime. ARKANSAS 50, NO. 1 LSU 48, 3 OTS Nov. 23, 2007, Baton Rouge Arkansas beat a top-ranked team for the first time since upsetting Texas in 1981 as Darren McFadden rushed 32 times for 206 yards and 3 touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Peyton Hillis — who scored 4 touchdowns. Cornerback Matterral Richardson intercepted a pass on a two-point conversion attempt to clinch the victory.
