C0LLEGE WOMEN : UALR women find their comfort zone

Published: Sunday, December 02, 2007 PRINT E-MAIL

The UALR women sure make it look easy on their home floor.

Four players scored at least 10 points, the defense forced 26 turnovers and the rout was on from the outset as the Trojans bullied their way to a 65-40 victory over Bradley on Saturday at the Stephens Center.

Senior Nikya Hughes led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds while true freshman Chastity Reed came off the bench and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

UALR ran its record to 16-1 overall against nonconference competition since the Stephens Center opened in 2005.

The Trojans have beaten four opponents this season at home by an average margin of 28. 5 points.

“A young ball club especially plays well at home because they’re in their own environment and feel more comfortable,” UALR Coach Joe Foley said.

“We don’t play very well on the road sometimes but I’m pleased that our home crowd gets to see us to play well. Taking care of things at home is what it’s all about.” UALR (5-2 ) marked its only deficit at 1-0 inside the first minute of play, but it was soon evident Bradley would be no match after the Trojans answered with an 11-2 run within a span of 2: 06.

“This [Bradley ] was a pretty good offensive team from what I’ve seen on film so we did a great job of taking them out of their offense,” Foley said.
