Hogs guard Beverley facing paternity suit Published: Friday, December 21, 2007 PRINT E-MAIL FAYETTEVILLE — Tumeka N. Williams filed a paternity lawsuit in Washington County Circuit Court on Wednesday alleging Arkansas guard Patrick Beverley is the father of her 7-month-old son and seeking child support payments. B everley, a sophomore averaging a team-high 12. 6 points, declined comment on the lawsuit Thursday. The lawsuit requests that the court order Beverley to pay current and back child support and provide proof of his income, including money from sports advertising or payments received from agents. Any such benefits for a college athlete would be in violation of NCAA rules, and Williams ’ lawsuit did not provide evidence of any payments being made to Beverley.
Birth announcements submitted to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Northwest Arkansas Times indicate Williams had a baby boy May 10, 2007, but the person listed as the father was not Beverley. Arkansas Coach John Pelphrey was asked Thursday about the lawsuit, how it might be affecting Beverley and the university’s response to any reference of possible payments by an agent to Beverley. “I’m aware of it. Obviously, there’s not a whole lot we can say with regards to that,” Pelphrey said. “[Beverley is ] aware of it. I’m sure it has [to weigh on him ] a little bit or a lot. “ At the Un iversity of Arkansas, we’re always very proactive in terms of compliance issues with regards to the SEC and the NCAA. Certainly I’ve got my own standards, too. Whenever we are made aware of something we certainly always try to find out about it and stay on top of it and be as proactive as we possibly can. This situation is no different.” Beverley has played in all 10 games for the Razorbacks this season and is listed in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against Appalachian State.
