Hogs get 2nd crack at Vols Published: Saturday, March 15, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL ATLANTA — Arkansas is getting another shot at No. 4 Tennessee in today’s SEC Tournament semifinals. The Razorbacks hope the second meeting goes better than the first, when the Vols handed Arkansas its most lopsided loss of the season, 93-71, before 20, 008 fans at Thompson-Boling Arena on Feb. 13. “I think Tennessee is awesome,” Arkansas Coach John Pelphrey said. “They’re probably a No. 1 seed, but we’re excited about the chance to play them. “ We’d like to guard JaJuan Smith a little better. He was spectacular.” Smith, a Vols senior guard, matched his career high with 32 points against Arkansas in last month’s game, including hitting 6 of 6 three-pointers. The Razorbacks were within 43-38 at halftime, but the Vols opened the second half with an 11-1 run and coasted to the victory. They led 88-61 with 4: 40 left.
Routing Arkansas was part of a 16-0 home season for Tennessee. “It feels good to have a rematch at a neutral site,” Arkansas senior forward Charles Thomas said. “They had a tough game against South Carolina [in an 89-87 victory Friday ], so right now we’re looking forward to getting back at it.” Razorbacks senior guard Gary Ervin said he feels “great” about playing the Vols (29-3 ), who won the SEC regular-season championship and are gunning for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. “They’re a great team, but at the same time, we’ve got a lot to gain,” Ervin said. “We’ve just got to attack. “ We’ve got to control their runs. That’s the biggest key. “ The second half [of the first Arkansas-Tennessee game ], they got on a run... The game got out of hand.” Yesterday's Most Popular 1. Pelphrey expects Monk to join team 2.
