Running back gets offer, shifts to Hogs Published: Friday, April 04, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Helena-West Helena Central running back Turell Williams switched from a Rebel to a Hog after receiving a scholarship offer from Arkansas on Tuesday. Williams orally committed to Razorbacks Wednesday after sleeping on his decision. Williams, 6-2, 215, with 4. 5 speed in the 40, committed to the Rebels on March 2. He said he tried to call Rebels Coach Houston Nutt and tell him about switching to the Razorbacks.. “But he didn’t pick up his phone,” Williams said. I’m going to try and get back with him, though. ” Williams said he dreamed of playing for the Hogs. “I’m not knocking Nutt or anything, but I dreamed of playing for the Hogs,” Williams said. “I really didn’t want to go out of state.... It would’ve been OK, but I just don’t know too much about Mississippi. I know about the Hogs.” Williams said his ability to catch the ball is one of his strengths, along with running the football. “I feel like I got good hands out of the backfield and I try to run hard,” he said. “I play hard every down. I try to do everything a running back should do.” Williams said he had around 1, 500 in all-purpose yards last season.
Williams’ teammate cornerback Darius Winston committed to the Razorbacks shortly after National Signing Day in February. Williams said Winston helped persuade him to change his commitment. “He was up all night trying to get me to commit,” Williams said. Williams said Arkansas’ coaches talked about him playing running back but he said he believes he could play multiple positions. He said he had an offer from TCU along with interest from Tennessee, Memphis, Alabama and Mississippi State. Williams is Arkansas’ third oral commitment for the Class of 2009, joining Fayetteville offensive lineman Colby Berna and Winston. Oral commitments are not binding. National signing date for the Class of 2009 is the first Wednesday in February.
