Arkansas Razorbacks report Published: Friday, April 25, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Robinson back with first team FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas defensive end Antwain Robinson didn’t get off to an impressive start this spring. After he had four sacks in the Razorbacks’ lengthy scrimmage April 11, new defensive coordinator Willy Robinson noted it was a positive because “for a while he’s been kind of nonexistent.” Robinson, a senior who had two more sacks in last Saturday’s scrimmage, has been existing on the firstteam defense this week after being a backup. “He’s earned that right,” Willy Robinson said. “He’s kind of bought into it.” Redshirt freshman Jake Bequette also has gotten some first-team work at end this week along with sophomore Damario Ambrose. Junior Adrian Davis got first-team work earlier this spring. Shuttles, parking The Arkansas athletic department will run shuttle buses from Baum Stadium and handicap shuttles from Lot 56 at the corner of Razorback Road and 6 th Street for Saturday’s Red-White game. Shuttle buses will begin running at 3 p. m., three hours prior to the 6 p.m. kickoff, and will continue for two hours after the game ends. While Lot 44 in front of the Broyles Center will be the site of many RazorFest activities, the lot’s north half will be open for general public parking on a first-come firstserve basis starting at 10 a.m. Lot 72 west of the stadium, the parking deck east of the stadium, the Harmon parking deck and all general student parking lots along Razorback Road also will be available for fan parking beginning at 10 a.m. Return guys Arkansas will be looking at three punt returners in the Red-White game: junior strong safety Matt Harris, junior tailback Michael Smith and sophomore cornerback Darrell Glasper.
“Right now I’d say Matt is probably at the head of the bunch, just because of consistency in catching the ball,” Arkansas assistant coach Tim Horton said. “He’s really done a nice job of that. “ Michael has done a good job and may give us a little more as a game-breaker right there than Matt. “ Darrell been fairly consistent, and he’s got a little burst. He’s a little spunky guy.” Horton said some incoming freshmen also will be given a shot at winning the punt return job in the fall. While there will be punting and fielding in the Red-White game, there won’t be live returns and no kickoff returns. Sanders leaving Courtney Sanders, a graduate assistant at Arkansas since last season, has been hired as Missouri State’s defensive line coach. Barbour on board Todd Barbour has been named Arkansas’ director of strength and conditioning for Olympic sports. Barbour, a 1994 graduate of the University of Idaho in physical education and sports science, had been serving as director of performance at the Performance and Wellness Institute in Greeley, Colo. “Todd has the knowledge and expertise to help our student-athletes improve in every aspect of their conditioning,” said Jason Veltkamp, head strength and conditioning coach. Barbour has 14 years of experience in the field, including five years as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Oregon State and five years in the high school ranks in Billings, Mont. Pick parade Second teamers Shedrick Johnson and Freddy Burton had interceptions on threestep-drop passes during Thursday’s scrimmage work in the Walker Pavilion. Johnson nearly had a second interception. “It was a great day for me,” Johnson said. “The D-line got after it, and I’ve just been listening to Coach [Lorenzo ] Ward, being able to read three-steps in the new defense. When you start catching on to everything, you start reacting to stuff faster. That’s what’s happening right now.” Today's Most Popular Today's Most E-mailed |
