FAYETTEVILLE — Third baseman Logan Forsythe was the only Arkansas player chosen first- or second-team All-SEC by the league’s coaches.
Forsythe and Vanderbilt third baseman Pedro Alvarez shared first-team honors in voting among SEC coaches, it was announced Tuesday.
Forsythe, a junior, is batting. 352 with 7 home runs and 33 RBI. He battled minor injuries this year, but still started 49 of 56 games for the Razorbacks, who are 34-22 after a 12-6 victory over Western Illinois on Monday. He ranked among the SEC’s top 10 players in five offensive categories: batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, walks and sacrifice flies.
Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham was named SEC Player of the Year, while teammate Josh Fields was the Pitcher of the Year and Bulldogs Coach David Perno was Coach of the Year. Auburn first baseman Hunter Morris was the Freshman of the Year.
Arkansas is waiting to see if it will receive an invitation to the NCAA Tournament, which begins May 30. The field for the 64-team tournament will be announced at 11: 30 a. m. Monday.
