Hogs sport a new style Published: Wednesday, August 06, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ new football jersey made its debut during media day Tuesday, and it appears to be a big hit. Coach Bobby Petrino recently called them “tight.” He used the term as the new slang for “cool,” but it also could apply literally when describing the fit. The new home jersey features a more condensed scripted “Arkansas” across the top of the chest, numerals outlined in black, a small Razorback on the sleeves, thick white stripes swooshing upward on the sides of the ribcage and custom pouches for the shoulder pads under another set of stripes. Through the chest and down, the jersey appears to be form fitting, literally tight. “They’re awesome,” sophomore tackle Ray Dominguez said. “They’re not as plain as they were last year. They’ve got some stripes up in there, they’ve got different colors and they’ve got black in there, so, I mean, you can’t beat black and red.”
The UA’s official supplier, Adidas, came up with the style. “I like the way they look,” said Petrino, who is in his first year with the Razorbacks. “I think they’ll tie together with the different pants we’ll end up wearing. “ We went through [the samples ] and made sure we try to carry on as much tradition as you can.” Senior receiver Reggie Fish, wearing his No. 1, modeled the jersey for pictures posted on the university’s Web site, arkansasrazorbacks. com. “It was definitely time for a new jersey upgrade,” Fish said. “I like the styling on it. The players are definitely excited about it” Quarterbacks Casey Dick and Nathan Dick weighed in with positive reviews as well. “I think they’re nice and slick and they’re going to look good on us out there,” Nathan Dick said. “I love them,” Casey Dick added. “They’re real good. Whoever thought of them did a good job.” In today’s recruiting, a jersey upgrade could be a bonus. “I always feel like the players need to be in something they feel comfortable about, feel good about, look good in and what’s going to help us in recruiting,” Petrino said. “That’s always something you try to balance: the tradition, the feeling of the players and recruiting.” Yesterday's Most Popular 1.
