GULF SOUTH : Turnovers set tone for UAM Published: Sunday, October 05, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL ARKADELPHIA — Arkansas-Monticello’s ball-hawking defense kept it in the game early, and the Boll Weevils’ offense took it the rest of the way. Arkansas-Monticello forced six turnovers and rolled to a 44-24 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at A. U. Williams Field in Arkadelphia. “Our offense was really good [in the second half ], but how can you not be good when you’ve got six turnovers by the defense,” Arkansas-Monticello Coach Gwaine Mathews said. “I thought we forced tempo all night.” Quenton Arnett had three interceptions for Arkansas-Monticello, while Jeremy Brown and Lowen Baptiste each had one. Arkansas-Monticello quarterback Scott Buisson entered the game averaging more than 500 yards of total offense. After being held to 26 yards rushing in the first half, Buisson got it going in the second half. He finished with 113 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns and completed 20 of 32 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown. “Scotty was not on his game tonight, there’s no doubt about that,” Mathews said. “They did some good things against us.” Johnny Polite added 86 yards rushing and a touchdown for Arkansas-Monticello (4-2, 2-1 Gulf South Conference ).
Ouachita Baptist (2-3, 1-3 ) had five interceptions and a lost fumble. Lance Parker completed 17 of 33 passes for 200 yards but had 3 interceptions. Eli Cranor threw the other two interceptions. Arkansas-Monticello fell behind 10-7 before striking quickly to take a 13-10 halftime lead. The Boll Weevils then scored touchdowns on all three of their third-quarter possessions to take a 34-17 lead. “I’ll tell you what, it’s on the road,” Mathews said. “It’s another GSC win.
