Arkansas 25, Auburn 22

1 st Quarter AUBURN 7, ARKANSAS 3

Bobby Petrino went against form and deferred after winning the coin toss and it paid off. Auburn went three-and-out, then Arkansas drove 71 yards for a 27-yard Shay Haddock field goal, the Hogs’ first points in the first quarter this season. Arkansas’ lead lasted all of 13 seconds, when Tristan Davis brought back the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Arkansas tailback Michael Smith rushed 11 times for 45 yards and made 1 reception for 41 yards. Auburn’s offense managed one first down and 21 yards, compared to Arkansas’ 134 yards. 2 nd Quarter AUBURN 13, ARKANSAS 10

Arkansas had driven 75 yards to the Auburn 29 to start the quarter, but Casey Dick threw an interception to Neiko Thorpe, who returned it 59 yards. The Hogs held and Auburn had to settle for Wes Byrum’s 28-yard field goal and a 10-3 lead. Undaunted, Dick engineered an 80-yard touchdown drive. Auburn stuffed two plays at the 1 before Dick scored over right tackle on fourth down. Wendel Davis nabbed an interception inside the red zone for the Hogs, and Arkansas drove to the 45 before Dick’s throw into traffic was tipped, intercepted and returned to the 19 by Josh Bynes. Auburn fans booed when three plays went nowhere, and the Tigers settled for another field goal. 3 rd Quarter AUBURN 20, ARKANSAS 16

On the opening kickoff, Arkansas’ Dennis Johnson was stripped and Auburn’s Chris Evans recovered at the Hogs’ 24. Auburn scored on Kodi Burns’ 3-yard keeper for a 20-10 lead. Adrian Davis had a sack and strip on Chris Todd at the Auburn 14, but the Tigers fell on the loose ball. On its second series, Arkansas drove 62 yards for a score, with Joe Adams contributing a 31-yard catch and run. The touchdown came on a 6-yard, double-reverse pass from Adams to Casey Dick. Auburn blocked the extrapoint attempt. But the momentum belonged to the Hogs, as Davis picked off a Todd pass to put Arkansas at the Auburn 23 on the final play. 4 th Quarter ARKANSAS 25, AUBURN 22

Arkansas couldn’t move it after Adrian Davis’ interception, settling for Shay Haddock’s 44-yard field goal to pull within 20-19 at the 14: 07 mark. Auburn finally got something going on offense with a 48-yard series to the Arkansas 16, but Wes Byrum misfired on a 34-yard field goal try. Four plays later, the Hogs got the home run they’d been seeking for weeks, a 63-yard run by Michael Smith, who had to shake two Auburn defenders inside the Tigers’ 20. Arkansas stopped Auburn inside the 5-yard line, then gave the Tigers a safety instead of punting out of the end zone before Matt Harris ended it with a diving interception.
