Arkansas received more good news early Wednesday morning when defensive lineman Kevin Lowry of Gainesville, Fla., orally committed to the Razorbacks.

Lowry, 6-3, 280 pounds, 5. 0 seconds in the 40-yard dash, also drew interest from Auburn, Louisville, Ball State and Troy.

“It feels real great to go play for a big D-I program as good as the Razorbacks,” said Lowry, who has a 300-pound bench press, a 545-pound squat and 4. 39-second pro-shuttle time. “They have a lot of tradition. I always wanted to be a Pig all my life.”

Lowry said he decided on the Razorbacks on Monday. He talked with Gainesville Coach Ryan Smith about his decision, then talked to Arkansas assistant coach Paul Petrino on Wednesday.

“He said it was great having me,” Lowry said.

Smith said Lowry has all the tools needed on the defensive line.

“They’re going to get a great player,” Smith said. “He’s very strong, very powerful and very athletic. He’s football smart, a football savvy kid, and just wants to please his coaches.

“ He’ll make the Razorback nation proud.”

Smith said Lowry has about 30 tackles and five sacks as well as one rushing touchdown from his fullback position.

Lowry is Arkansas’ 18 th commitment for the 2009 recruiting class. Oral commitments are nonbinding.
