Green to leave USC, eyes UA Published: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Southern California running back Broderick Green, who played at Pulaski Academy, is planning to transfer and is looking at the possibility of enrolling at Arkansas, he said Monday. Green has asked for and received a scholarship release from Southern Cal, effective at the end of the semester. Green cited the health of his mother and grandmother, and his desire to be closer to them, as reasons why he is transferring from Southern Cal. He plans to enroll at another school in time for the spring semester. Green said he wasn’t sure what school he would transfer to, but “as long as I’m close to home so I can take care of my grandmother and my mother, I’ll be fine,” he said. Schools he’s considering include Arkansas, Oklahoma, LSU and Oklahoma State — “schools that are close to home and are only a couple of hours from home, a distance where I can be with my mom and grandmother,” he said.
Green, 6-2, 235 pounds, 4. 57 seconds in the 40-yard dash, did not suit up for the BCS No. 6 Trojans’ 17-3 victory over California on Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles Times. A report on Southern Cal Coach Pete Carroll’s Web site said Green has stopped practicing with the Trojans. “If this is what he wants to do, I’ll try to help him any way that I can,” Carroll told the Times on Sunday. Carroll also said that playing time was a factor in Green’s decision. Green, a redshirt freshman, has rushed for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns on 32 carries this season. Green entered the season listed behind four other running backs on the USC depth chart and played mainly in blowouts. His best game came against Washington State when he ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns in a 69-0 victory. “I think the number of guys he’s battling against was a concern,” Carroll said. “Somewhere in there, that was one of his concerns, but he has a lot of things that are weighing on him.” Green redshirted last year after suffering an injured foot during the preseason. A 2007 Parade All-American, Green rushed for 2, 042 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior and was chosen to play in the U. S. Army All-American Bowl. He narrowed his list of schools to Southern Cal, Ohio State, Penn State and Tulsa before signing with the Carroll’s Trojans.
