FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas star Scotty Thurman is joining the Razorbacks basketball staff in an administrative position.

Thurman’s addition to Coach John Pelphrey’s staff hasn’t yet been announced, but sources with knowledge of the process confirmed to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Tuesday that he has been hired.

The job listing has been closed according to the UA website, and an announcement of Thurman’s hiring is expected this week, perhaps today.

Thurman, 35, is best known for hitting a game-clinching, three-point basket in the final seconds of the Razorbacks’ 76-72 victory over Duke for the 1994 NCAA championship in Charlotte, N.C.

Thurman has been working in the real estate business in Little Rock. His title with Arkansas will be director of student-athlete development.

The job was created after last season and was going to be filled by Isaac Brown, who was reassigned from assistant coach to an administrative position. But Brown left Arkansas earlier this summer to take an assistant coaching job at Arkansas State.

Thurman won’t have on-the-court coaching duties, but will have responsibilities that include mentoring current players and working to get former Razorbacks more involved in the program.
