If Arkansas has an SEC championship chase in its future, then quarterback Ryan Mallett will probably be in the running for the Heisman Trophy.

Unfortunely for Arkansas to have a player win the Heisman the team must have a perfect season and for Arkansas to have a chance to win a national championship, there must be no more then two undefeated teams at the end of the year and Arkansas must be one of them. Just listen to ESPN. Arkansas is never in the conversation. What really burns me up is you hear more about how important it is for college football to have Notre Dame have a wining season and be in the National Championship hunt then anything elso in their reporting. Bottom line, it's all about the size of the viewing audience and the money they can demand for having the big market matchups.

Pretty defeatist attitude, Texas Hog. Yes, ESPN is ga ga about Notre Dame and even seem enamored more about Auburn outside of Alabama in the SEC West rather than Arkansas.
Frankly, I think that's great because I believe they are setting themselves up for a real identity crisis if Arkansas has a dream season. And have you noticed how YOUNG some of their prognosticators are? Yeesh, I'm thinking some of these GQ's in suits have to show ID's in their favorite bars.
Its the perfect setup for ESPN to look stupid about how they size up college football for this year. Frankly, I'm going to enjoy watching them stumble through everything they get wrong.

I agree totally with Texas Hog. Let ND, TCU, Boise State, etc. and the rest of the ESPM darlings come play in the SEC and see how good they are. The Hogs have to be twice as good to get any recognition, and that will only come grudgingly. They shouldn't have to have a dream season to get the recognition. Frankly, after the way D-Mac was snubbed twice they can keep the Heisman, it is about audience/money, not who contributes the most to his team.

The only reason Darren McFadden didn't get the Heisman in 2007 was that ESPN pushed hard for Tebow to win. My understanding is that many of the voters just went with whomever ESPN picked and were too lazy to do their research. That's pretty sorry. The media should never have that kind of power and influence over people. All we can hope for as Razorback fans is that our team comes out each and every game day and shows that we deserve recognition.
Here's another thought: I have lived in Louisiana for many years and am a casino dealer. We get many players from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Whenever anyone finds out I am from Arkansas, the hillbilly jokes start coming. I really think that the media in general has kept that mentality going, ESPN included. If we ever do win a National Championship, maybe that image will go down the tubes.
