Linemen from UA,ASU wade into NFL Combine

— Three football players from teams in Arkansas face their first round of job interviews this week at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Arkansas State defensive end Alex Carrington and the Arkansas Razorbacks guard Mitch Petrus and defensive tackle Malcolm Sheppard will run the gamut of drills, medical testing, interviews and psychological exams at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis through Monday.

Petrus, 6-3, 304 pounds, went through his first round of interviews Thursday and will work out with the rest of the offensive linemen Saturday. Carrington and Sheppardbegin interviews Saturday and work out Monday.

Carrington, 6-5, 284, is rated as the 99th overall prospect and a projected third-round pick by nfldraftscout.com.

Petrus, who had a solid performance at the Senior Bowl last month, has been working out at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Petrus, from Carlisle, is rated as high as the No. 4 offensive guard available by nfldraftscout.com.

Sheppard, a 6-2, 290-pounder out of Bainbridge, Ga., has been training at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale with teammate Michael Smith in preparation for Indianapolis. Sheppard is rated the No. 9 defensive tackle.
