Arkansas wide receiver Greg Childs pulls in a reception over East Carolina defensive back Van Eskridge during the first quarter Saturday at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.

— Alex Tejada’s 37-yard field goal in overtime gave the Arkansas Razorbacks a 20-17 victory over the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday in the Liberty Bowl.

East Carolina (9-5) got the ball first in overtime, but Ben Hartman couldn’t make a 35-yard field-goal attempt after also missing a 39-yard try on the final play of regulation. Hartman also missed from 45 and 39 yards but made a 33-yard kick.

The Pirates led 10-0 at halftime after two second-quarter scores — a 3-yard run by Dominique Lindsay and Hartman’s 33-yard field goal.

Arkansas (8-5) tied it at 10-10 thanks to two third-quarter interceptions.

Jerry Franklin’s 31-yard interception return on the fifth play of the third quarter set up Tejada’s 25-yard field goal that pulled the Razorbacks within 10-3. Tramain Thomas returned another interception 37 yards for a touchdown and the tie.

East Carolina quarterback Patrick Pinkney threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Dwayne Harris before Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett tied it at 17-17 on a 41-yard touchdown pass to Jarius Wright.

Arkansas just needs to get into an indoor or warmer-weather bowl game next year, like a BCS one.

It felt like I got colder and colder as the game went on...I wanted one of those big football insulated capes with hoods like ECU had. Way to hang tough and win Hogs. Good job Tejada.

This bunch of sophmores/freshmen are growing up! In recent years, if things weren't clicking we would have been blown out. Now this coaching staff has them believing they can win the close ones. Great job coaches and players! Just a few plays away this year folks... just a few plays... ones we will make in 2010! Go Hogs!

Our defense was supposed to be the weak link, but I think their play was respectful, considering. But I was stunned at how inept the offense was. Very lucky to win this one.

Remind me again, which team was from the Conference USA?!! O for 13 on third down conversions, my god, most teams would have gotten one by accident. Don't blame the weather, the offense was unprepared. The hogs were outplayed and the coaches were out coached.

Really???, Was the hog offense that bad or should we give ECU's defense some credit considering they had alomost a month to prepare for a potent hogs offense? You know we as hog fans should be very happy considering this time last year when we were at home instead of at a bowl game. This year we not only went to a bowl game but won it (the first win in 6 years). As for luck, we should understand that sometimes considering the situations you are in, it's better to be lucky than good (example: Texas in Big12 champ game, and Alabama in Tenn. game).
