FAYETTEVILLE — Linebacker Jelani Smith has been granted a release from Arkansas, a university spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
The redshirt freshman played in seven games and recorded three tackles this season and is expected to transfer to another school.
The 6-foot, 215-pound Smith started in the first two games of the 2008 season and recorded eight tackles, including one for a loss, a pass breakup and a forced fumble. He was sidelined with a hand injury after the two starts and was granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA.
