— UA fullback Stumon facing DWI charges

Arkansas senior fullback Van Stumon was arrested early Saturday morning by Fayetteville police and charged with driving while intoxicated and other driving offenses.

Stumon, 22, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 7:23 a.m., paid $1,200 bond, and was released at 10:38 a.m.

The North Little Rock native faces charges of DWI, careless driving, an improper U-turn and an improper lane change. He faces a July 16 court date in Fayetteville District Court.

According to the police report, Stumon was pulled over at 2:20 a.m. at 2311 Martin Luther King Boulevard after police spotted his vehicle making an improper turn from Garland Avenue, swerving on the road, driving over a curb into a parking lot and parking erratically.

Stumon failed a field sobriety test, the report stated, registering 0.10 on a blood alcohol test.

Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino is looking into the incident, a university spokesman said.

“Coach Petrino is aware of it, he’s handling it and he’s very disappointed,” said Zack Higbee, UA associate media relations director.

Stumon, 6-1, 226 pounds, started two games last season and had a touchdown reception in the season opener against Missouri State. He also had two carries for 4 yards.
