— Former Arkansas forward Michael Washington will get a chance to prove himself with the New York Knicks after not being selected in the NBA Draft on Thursday night.

Washington accepted an invitation to join the Knicks' summer league team, said Nick Paluch, marketing director for Briscoe-Paluch Sports Management. Details of Washington's agreement to join the Knicks' summer team roster were not known late Thursday night.

"He's ready to make the most of the opportunity and he's eager to work hard," Paluch said early Friday morning.

Washington had a "great" individual workout with the Knicks on Wednesday, Paluch said. The McGehee native will battle for an NBA future with the summer team, which will feature rookies and other undrafted free agents vying for a deal with an NBA franchise.

Players in the NBA's summer league will compete in games hosted in Orlando and Las Vegas for two weeks starting July 5.

Former Arkansas guard Courtney Fortson, who decided to leave Arkansas after his sophomore season, was not drafted Thursday.

Washington averaged 12.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last season as a senior, when he battle back and ankle injuries. His NBA stock dropped after his junior year, when he shot at a 55.1 percent clip and averaged a team-high 15.5 points and 9.8 rebounds.
