LIKE IT IS: Pelphrey should seize reins of Razorbacks
Sunday, March 14, 2010
John Pelphrey was bruised — a little more embattled than he probably realizes — but he took the podium for the postgame interview with resolve.

I'm discouraged that Wally thinks Pelphrey's chances of being kept are good. We need to get this guy OUT of here for all the above stated reasons. We have tremendous once in a generation HS in-state talent that could start turning the program around. I'm willing to bet they go elsewhere if Pel stays. What's the attraction to play for him? We need to woo Mike Anderson and bring him back. Broyles never should have let him go. Anderson turned a program completely around at Missou under worse circumstances than Pel ever thought about. The guy can coach circles around Pel.

I agree with catch2225 other than Pelphrey should get at least one more season- I usually say 5 seasons, but talent isn't the issue (to get to the big dance not to win it). Every player playing their role as prescribed by the head coach & staff is. Wally hit the bulls eye on this one.

In my opinion, Courtney Fortson is a hotdog in point guard clothing. In addition, he is obviously a distraction off the court. He was quoted earlier about how he "relishes" it when the ball is in his hands and all eyes are on him. Relish supposedly goes well with a hotdog.
Starting next year, Pelphrey should have enough talent and depth to sit Fortson down, when needed, assuming the alleged "point" guard stays out of trouble and even returns.
I am in Pel's corner for one more year. Next year, however, MUST be considerably better and kids like Fortson MUST clearly understand who is running the team. Otherwise, I think Pelphrey is done - and, pass the mustard, please.

C. Fortson is a hotdog.
Coach Pel needs to get conttrol of the team.
We need to have a winning season next year.
We need to sign those great player from in-state next year.
If not,we need a change.
I have been here 55 years and I like a winner.

Don't know if Mike Anderson is "the" guy for our program, but he's a Nolen disciple who runs his own version of 40 minutes of Hell. That's fun basketball, win or lose! Coach Pelfrey has made his share of miscalculations on some of the kids he brought into the program. I think he needs to toughen up even more when it comes to dealing with his players. A quick exit and a butt chewing for not listening to him needs to become a given for these players. The talent is coming. If Pel can survive next year, he should be in a much better position to compete for the SEC title and decient seeding in the NCAA tournament. If the improvement next year isn't obvious, then replace him with an Anderson or Alford...IF you can.

Get rid of Pel. Please for God sakes. You could take Moncrief, Brewer, Delph and Corlis and if you play no defense your gonna be sitting in the same spot this team is in March. This coaching staff is terrible. You can't have a tired old ex head coach as an assistant. You have to have young hungry blood. Fortson's a joke the way THE WHOLE GAME is turned over to him. Clark is leaving. Imagine that. Coach Pel recruits small guards and then sets ZERO screens. What a joke. Then says publicly that he needs taller guards. How are you motivated to play for this guy? How bout shutting your mouth and recruiting taller guards if that's what you want. No defense whatsoever. Forget that he's a good guy. My father was the best guy on earth he couldn't coach college basketball. Good guy.

I LIKE everything Wally is saying. I just don't know if Pel can coach. How can a GOOD coach let Fortson run wild. And, the possible loss of Clark is disturbing.

John Pelphrey,
I don't wish you ill, but you need to coach at a different level or go somewhere to be an assistant for a couple of years and learn to coach.
