I have no idea if it is doable, but would really like to see Joe Kleine get some attention in regard to the staff position which is now open.

As to lost revenue and ticket sales, win and they will come.

Webster's definition of progress is to advance, develop or improve.
I am a real estate agent in Atlanta (SEC country, biggest hog fan in the world). The head honcho of my company gave a meeting a week ago and said it's the best time ever to be in real estate... I/We wanted to tell her to shut up and sit down. If she had said it's a very tough time let's just continue working hard and we will get thru this. Keep our nose to the grind stone type of thing. With this approach she would have gained so much more respect. When Pelphrey and/or Long say they see progress (advance, develop or improve). Shut up and sit down. Go back to Kentucky and Iowa or wherever you are from. Don't lose 7 out of the last eight (can't even get us in the NIT) and tell a hog that you see progress. Don't do it. SAY I'm committed to get this thing right I will work harder than ever and defense has to be a priority more than ever. Don't play a hog fan as a fool.
Coach P can't coach at this level but he's not going to quit a good paying job. Long needs to give us hogs alot more credit and find a winner. Maybe he's not a huge basketball fan but he needs to realize ARKANSAS is. PROGRESS.

Jordan... if i ever move to your area i'll buy my house from you... hey i don't dislike the kid...but he is in over his head... the hogs have the money to bring in a big time coach, so why not Just Do It? Progress? For me... Long is a lazy bubba... frank knew nothing about basektball..what is the coach's name he hired once Lenny Van ..something..loser.. he got lucky on Eddie then O.Henry told him about Nolan at Tulsa...hogs got two good ones...now what? Let the kid go..pay him off... and get us a coach now.... if not the sooooooie pig is over for awhile.... come on Arkansas fans tell the truth...we need a new coach! Kentucky got rid of Billy G...see where they are now? Wonder why Kentucky didn't hire John P.? Hello!!!

I sure don't dislike him either. As a man. As a dude. But as a coach he's terrible. If he went to somebody else in the west (or anywhere ELSE) I would probably love him.
Like I said before it wasn't a bad hire. Played under Sutton and Pitino. Coached under Donovan. Jersey in the rafters at Kentucky. BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. Now let's move on. Sutton, Pitino and Donovan... How do you play no defense and lousy offense rubbing elbows with that bunch anyway?

I see a lot of talk about bringing in a big name coach, but no one mentioned specifically. Who do you think would be willing to come coach at Arkansas with the possible loss of scholarships (APR)? I can't think of any. Pel is taking his lumps for some poor choices regarding his first recruiting class and the suspensions from last season. Remember, he took the job no one else wanted after Heath.
Kentucky will probably be staring at the APR issue before too long with Coach Cals focus on 1 and done recruits.
Hopefully, with the influx of new recruits we will see the intensity pick up on the defensive front because we will have the bench to do it. I think we as fans deserve a 20+ win season next year or the seat will be very hot for Pel.

Easy Bosshog43, folyd, alford, pitino, eddie sutton, nolan, ford, billy g,anderson, pender, tubby, list goes on and on.... arkansas can be very very tough in basketball... coaches know it... don't believe someone that tells you all hogs can get is some assistant that may be a good head coach... not true at all.... coach hug was out for one year...came back better at k.state then movex to west va... i think billy g could be the man... folyd is great coach too... money is available to make a good hire... good luck to john p... but let us move on now...if not we will be in the same position next year... talking about the sameo sameo... get real arkansas fans... hogs have something great to offer any coach... for me I would actually prefer bobby knight.... and i think he would do it...that is greatest hire arkansas could ever make... but the a.d. is lazy plus hog fans will not keep the pressure on for a change...that is the major problem... if fans raise 40minutes/days of hell...long will get off his butt and take some action...buy the guy off and move on... question..do hog fans want to go through another year with the young coach? nope... is arkansas a training stop for coaches...nope.. So make a change...now...ciao

Who cares if it's a big name. I would love to have Knight or Tubby but I just want somebody SMART that recruits fearlessly (smart kids that buy into the team concept and have a dying passion to win) and plays D every second as hard as humanly possible. And rebounds because they understand why they are rebounding. A coach that TEACHES good crisp team basketball. A WINNER. People don't know hog basketball and the SEC if they think that nobody wants to come here. That's crazy. There are more people out there than Calipari and Self. There are 50 HIGH SCHOOL coaches in Arkansas that would have this team playing better defense. Watch the tourney (Long), get us a coach.

ua87 says...

I think it is a darned if you do and darned if you don't situation. On one hand, you look for a fresh start with a new coach. Problem is, how much of a blow does current recruiting take? What hesitation goes through the minds of current players to stay/transfer? I think Rotnei's decision to transfer is automatic. At least with the current regime, he knows what's going on. And, what do you pay to get a big name coach? Kentucky sold their soul for Calipari and probably will eventually lose the integrity of that program once John C. starts dismantling it like he did at UMass and Memph. Then you have the situation on how it impacts the other major sports. What if Petrino wins an SEC Championship next year and takes the Hogs to a BCS Bowl? Will you have anything in reserve to keep him here when other, more prominent programs ring the phone?

I say the old adage is true, "patience is a virtue." Pel will sink or swim next season.

How much of a blow does current recruiting take, ua87? What's the incentive for good recruits to come here NOW? If we stick with this "better the devil you know" attitude we'll never get out of this rut. And I keep hearing about this "influx of recruits". EVERY school has an influx of recruits...how good are they? Have we actually landed the good ones yet? Again, what's the attraction to come play for Pel? I simply can't believe this guy will be here next year. Long seems so enamored with Pel's Kentucky roots, that they all love him up there. Yeah they love him as a former player. As a coach, they love him at ARKANSAS. I have no doubt Pel is a stand-up guy. So was Stan Heath! Let's face it, he was a desperation hire. He landed a lucky job at a tradition rich D1 university without ever having proven himself as a coach with his own recruits. He wasn't up to it. Send him on his way already.

NEED TO KEEP PEL BECAUSE OF WORRIED ABOUT RECRUITING. Are you kidding me? Oh Momma I'm dying to go play for a coach that can't get in EITHER tourney and can't get a player to the NBA. That's one of three reasons you fire him. DEFENSE, OFFENSE and RECRUITING. Terrible terrible and terrible. Slow down people you don't KEEP him because you are worried about recruiting. You get RID of him because you are worried about recruiting. And offense and defense.

Recruiting...hello... nolan came from community college...after winning national tournament took Tulsa and recruited a point from Ala community college Anderson..rest is history... Arkansas has many options on hiring a good coach. The least of my fears is recruiting..fear that Long will sit on his butt and do nothing is my fear... if Kentucky really thought the young guy could coach... then J.P. would be the head coach at UK now... Coach C. is excellent mentor...and will do fine now and in the future... all d1 coaches cheat...that is just how it is...maybe not Knight... but others do... Can Arkansas find a good fit as head coach...of course... I recall Tark coming from Ca.Community College, Long Beach State.. to Vegas... great coach.. there are coaches in waiting for such a super chance to coach at a university like U of A... FACT is wWe have an a.d. and administration that must be LAZY...that is all I can figure out... anyone with basketball knowledge could see in the home game against UAB the coach doesn't understand tactics... 2-3..zone no dunk by UAB for a win...at least make UAB shoot oustide...this is not rocket science... Fans know we must have a change... what the hell is going on in the ozark mountians.... Who really knows? Is anybody actually in charge of hiring and firing? Is the media in A.D.'s pocket? Come fans jump up and down until we get some action fo new head coach... what is this?
p.s. fired and hire Knight..for those that seek an answer... he will get all the great athletes in arkansas too...
texas is football state with 8 teams in march madness...think about it..

Met a kid (nice young guy, Georgia Tech grad)in my gym from Fayettville. He had a Razorback shirt on. I ofcourse struck a conversation with him because here in Atlanta not many of us HOGS. ANYWAY he said he and his home buddies don't even watch or go to Razorback basketball games anymore. He said he used to like Pel because he was young but the guy sure can't coach. So people this is where the program is going in a nutshell. Some people will say he isn't a true fan. B.S. that's what losing and sloppiness with zero hope for the future gets you. My buddies down here in the middle of SEC country all call hog ball "40 minutes of hell for the fan" and then laugh at me.

Lastly, ranked over 100 (I think. I know at one point. Scared to look again) in three point defense. I could jump from the empire state building and it wouldn't hurt as much as knowing that. That's just insane in my book. Here is a clue/advice to prevent that Coach Pel. Are you ready? Guard them. And here is a rule Mr. long for you, maybe the next coach he should atleast be in the NCAA tournament the year before you hire them (unless it's Knight). Afterall there are 64 of them. Guys just something to consider.

I'm in Knoxville and have to endure the same jibes from Vol fans. Bruce Pearl faced the same, if not worse, adversity as Pel this season and has them winning, the fans excited, and in the NCAA. I've heard Pearl say many times "if they don't play defense, they don't play", and brother he means it. He can coach CIRCLES around Pel. Geez, pick a coach, any coach...

Yeah DEFENSE is where you WIN. Just playing basketball it doesn't really matter. But if you want to WIN you have to play D. In practice I would practice D 65% of the time. Kids practice offense all the time. Defense, rebounding, free throws and playing team ball. And let Fortson practice with a flat ball from time to time. A teaching tool (A WHAT??) to not dribble so much. And how to set screens. What?? What the hell is a screen?

I've been a Hog Fan since birth. Over 55 years now. This past season they were unwatchable, for me. With bad decisions being the norm and what seems no guidance from the coach, they look like unsupervised thugs, for me. Why we had to have the Health experiment and now this Pel Parade is a mystery. When Nolan went wacko we should have asked Anderson to right the ship. Just my opinion but this current group of players/coaches are not going to deliver anything but more of the same which is poor performances. GO HOGS. Sooner I hope than later.

Geesh, by all the posts that want to start a lynch mob, you'd swear all of you know how to get the job done whether it is as basketball coach or AD. I'd like to remind you that Long hired Petrino. I don't see any of you dissing him for that decision.

And as for you jedog, you showed your true colors. "All d1 coaches cheat." Nice. I guess we need a crook running the show, huh? I seriously doubt all d1 coaches cheat.

Go soak your head and hang your sheepskin somewhere else.

ua87... the ncaa rules are so crazy all d1 coaches cheat... didn't say they are crooks just cheaters...they must cheat to have a decent program... that is a fact... yes i could be a.d., i could hire a winning coach...and i bet you could too...rocket science? It is a lie that john p. is all that arkansas could find in the hiring process... absolutely NUTS... regarding football... don't like football... so if hogs win or lose... really don't care... bball.. for me... maybe kentucky will fired Coach C. and hire John P... then we can get a real coach.. until we do... hogball will suffer.... mob your lynch on these facts and take long and put him where..never mind...ciao

Wow its really good to see so many fans express themselves and you can tell from the comments that these people know basketball pretty well. I feel a little sorry for JP at times, but when you put yourself in the top position, you have to take the bad with the good and we haven't had much good to talk about lately. With the limited number of scholarships available and parety in the league, its going to take a really good coach, a lot of hard work, some tremendous athletes and some good old luck to get this program back on solid ground again. Hog fans are fair and patient if they believe in what they are seeing on the floor, or the field. I love the direction the football program is going, even though they haven't reached the top yet. This is all we want from the basketball program and not many are satisfied with the direction its going now.
