UCA falls to McNeese State

Central Arkansas (25-31,13-16 Southland) lost 3-2 to Mc-Neese State(34-25, 17-13) in the Bears’ final game of the 2010 season at Farris Field Sunday in Conway.

On the mound for McNeese State, Meagan Bond lasted 2 innings, giving up 3 walks, 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Kayla Shepherd (8-8) allowed 1 walk and struck out 3 in 5 innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory. For UCA, Kelsie Armstrong (17-17) struck out 4 and allowed 4 hits and 3 runs in 5 innings. Kelley Martino struck out one and and allowed a hit in two innings of relief.

UA falls, advance to SEC Tournament

Arkansas (28-28, 10-18 SEC) held Auburn (30-23, 11-17) to three hits Sunday, but suffered a 2-1 loss at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Ala.

The two teams combined for five hits, and all the scoring was done in the first inning. Arkansas’ run came on a sacrifice fly that scored Jessica Bachkora. Auburn answered with back to-back two-out home runs by Kyndall White and Elizabeth Eisterhold. Each hit two home runs in the series. Auburn led after an inning, 2-1.

BASKETBALL

Wings capture AAU state title

The Arkansas Wings Elite 17-and-under boys defeated Team Arkansas 86-59 to capture their eighth consecutive Arkansas AAU state championship at Little Rock McClellan. The Wings were led by Aaron Ross’ 18 points. Rashad Madden added 13 and Darren Griswold finished with 10. Hunter MIckelson, David Rivers and Issac McCoy all finished with 10 points. Team Arkansas was led by Jamal Jones’ 13 points. Both teams will advance to the AAU 17-and-under national championship at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. in July.
