BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Arkansas receiver and return man Joe Adams is the SEC special teams player of the week.
Adams returned a punt 97 yards for a touchdown for Arkansas against Mississippi. It was the Razorbacks' first TD on a punt return since 2003 and the SEC's longest since 1994.
Also Monday, Auburn quarterback Cam Newton and Georgia linebacker Justin Houston were named SEC offensive and defensive players of the week.
Newton ran for a career-best 217 yards and two touchdowns against LSU, breaking the SEC single-season rushing record by a quarterback.
Houston had 3.5 tackles for a loss, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in Georgia's win over Kentucky.
Alabama left tackle James Carpenter is offensive lineman of the week, Auburn's Nick Fairley earned defensive line honors and Mississippi State running back LaDarius Perkins had the top freshman performance.
