"It was at the end of a bitterly disappointing game" - as well as a very shocking week, given the untimely and tragic loss of a kid from the Razorback family.

I have always liked the fiery edge that Bobby Petrino brings to the table during games - and, under the circumstances, have no problem with his actions.

If the Razorbacks are up 20 and kicking field goals next year with 5 minutes to play, put a camera in Les Miles' face and check his reaction. These things typically go full circle.

The talking heads have their own agenda.

What comes around goes around, there will be another game in Little Rock next year. Arkansas will continue to get better. This Team has leadership and I believe the love and support Patrino has shown for his players was was made evident this year. These players will work hard in the off season and put it on the line for him every game next year. GO HOGS, COTTON BOWL BOUND, its starts in Dallas in Jan. and will continue all next year.

Is this still about him leaving Atlanta? Maybe it has something to do with the matter-of-fact answer he game what's her name at halftime when, after she tried to get dramatic with her question about his "fraile team." I loved his answer. As far as I am concerned, coaches should not be forced to conduct these interviews heading into the locker room. Regardless, someone in the media has an ax to grind with CBP. Did "the Bear" come under this kind of scrutiny? I don't recall hearing any criticism about Saban's salty language at press conferences. In fact, every commentary I heard about it just blew it off as "that's Saban."

Those that condemn the coaches action help feed the stereotypes of "How dare they" Arkansas? We are (in theory) in the minds of most outside the state perceived as backwoods or lesser than thou. They still can't believe that a high profile coach would actually quit a Head Coaching job in the NFL to come to Arkansas. They spent all year avoiding the talk of his team in the National Championship picture until it was forced on them last game of the season. Until we self destructed victory was within reach. Mr. Bobby Petrino is a smart man, he knew exactly what he was doing, and like Nolan getting kicked of the game down in Austin at the Drum, it serves a purpose for him and his team. Has he apologized yet? If not; he meant it, and I for one am glad; but my opinion don't count nor yours when it comes to CBP's personal convictions. LRPD got one year of planning to get this thing right next year in War Memorial. What a fitting name...

It's not about cursing that is so outrageous. Give me a break. So what if he wants to use the F word. The outrage is that he pointed at a fellow SEC coach and said F U and then called him a mother F'er. That's what is OUTRAGEOUS! Why because he didn't start taking a knee with 8:30 minutes left when the drive began? Because he had the nerve not to take a knee with 5:08 left. Does he and AR fans have so little faith in his team that they do not think his great offense could still score several times in 5 minutes? This wasn't LSU/OLE Miss and up by 46. This was #1 vs #3. The only thing more outrageous is that y'all excuse his behavior.

Or should a team just say here man we gonna play nice.we will just turn the ball over to you? Come on this isnt peewee football.no tean is going to sit there and say how can i not hurt the coaches feelings. thats the excuse the article eluded to. Timing of his outburst suggest the same. I could care less whether or not he issues an apology nor have I suggested it or a resignation. I'm shocked that so many in AR think it's ok to look at a counter part and say F U M F'er and shocked a sports writer would write a whole article excusing his behavior. Call it like it is. He was being a sore loser, a
poor sport, poor example, poor representative etc. Obviously not just LSU fans find it outrageous because the nation all saw it repeatedly and laughed at him. you say he knew what he was doing. Did CBP tell you that or say that at a press conference? Or is that your guess? If that's the kind of attention he wants for himself and the university then he got it. If that's the kind of lesson he likes to teach his players then job well done.

I live in AR so reading the AR paper and sports page is not trolling,

All of us who have played the game know it is emotional, and last week was particularly so given the tragic events and stakes of game vs LSU. That said, our coaches and players are reps of the program/UA and have an expectation of sportsmanship, which was not met when CBP uttered the words in question and no one should really argue otherwise. Rather than 'say' those things, and risk being caught on camera with the related criticisms and potential recruiting implications, just think them and become even more mercenary in your focus toward revenge on the field of play next time. But, we're all human, and therefore subject to mistakes in judgment and/or being caught in a moment of weakness. No complaints from this Hog fan about LSU scoring late--taking a knee early would be even more embarrassing--it is our job to stop opponents from scoring and we haven't done that well all year. I don't like Miles but can't fault him here--if there was ANY smidgeon of possibility that not scoring enough against us would cost them a title shot then he has the right to lay it on--and given our screwed up BCS system who is to say there wasn't? We went 10-2 and lost to national champion contenders on their home turf--go win a bowl game against quality opponent and keep recruiting--the 'bomb' will pass.

Since last Friday, I jump at anything that looks like a Tigger. The cats even walk around our lawn now; when I use to always feed them :-)

I say CBP knew what he was doing because he has not apologized (yet). Until he does, you have to take a man at his word and that is what he said to Miles; and obviously what he meant.

I don't think he said it thinking it would mushroom like it did, but as Jerry Jones will tell you, sometimes negative publicity is a good thing and can be more effective than positive. You have to choose battles. This appears to be a battle that CBP chose? Not relevant if I condone or not, it is the fire of the leader we have in Fayetteville right now.

Between you and me this is nothing, I have said worse to my boss, what I want to see is the reporter or hog fan that will asked CBP man to man if he will fire his DC at the end of season?

Yes, that kind of language is common in the sports world among many coaches. It's common in movies and on the street.

Yes, it was a really emotional week and a disappointing loss was unfolding. No doubt about it.

Yes, the media do seem to delight in negative about BP. Cameras are watching.

Having said that, even BP would probably agree (at least privately) that it shouldn't have been said. It shouldn't have been said.

Most of us when wound up have said things we wish we hadn't; I certainly have.

Let's move on and celebrate the successes and the bright future and not vilify our coaches when they prove to be human but at the same time, let's speak up when the line is crossed.

Right, PSU and Syracuse?

@HogA I appreciate that. I agree he meant it and at least in that moment if not still. That 2nd half was tough and especially the first 6 1/2 minutes of the 4th qtr. I can imagine the frustration he was feeling. We've all said and done things in the heat of the moment that we wished we hadn't (or sometimes glad we did). Thankfully no one takes too much notice when I do.

Ya'll have a great coach, great talented atheletes and it was a great season. 10-2 in the SEC any year is a very good year ..heck, it's even good enough some years to still win the N C'ship. :) Ya'll should be headed to a BCS bowl if it wasn't for the 3 team rule.

ua87 says...

Do we REALLY know that was what was said? Were any of us (including Wally) three feet or less away from both of them on the field at the end of the game?

Coaches are like salesmen. They have huge egos and if truly competitive, absolutely do not hesitate to blow their stack when things go wrong.

The great Vince Lombardi himself, HATED to lose and oftentimes was quoted as saying second place is for losers. CBP passionately hates to lose which displays his level of commitment to the program.

And for those that think ESPN is always out to get Petrino and the Hogs, think again. They televise more of our games than any other network (granted, its part of the SEC on ESPN contract, but there are 11 (13 next year) other teams they can choose from to broadcast games within the conference). Rick Reilly of ESPN at the beginning of the season, predicted that the Hogs would win the National Championship. Obviously, its a silly notion now. But within the Borg of sports, we are growing in respect.

Slow sports days make for slow news days. Lets keep the focus where it belongs on the upcoming bowl, wherever and whenever that is, and continue to build on our recognition in a positive way.

On Friday, CBP was hurt and disapointed and he aparently took it out verbally on Les Miles. I'm reasonably sure he regrets it being caught by the TV cameras, but I don't think he regrets saying it...simply because that's the way he felt at the time. This team has been an emotional one for CBP because the Seniors were his first freshmen class. He had to be disapointed and hurt for them while watching the dream of playing for the National Championship slip away in the 4th quarter. He is a bulldog of a competitor and had a reaction that fit the situation. That doesn't make him any less of a coach or person, and he has my admiration and respect for being who he is.

Dafuture, no Bama's DC is going to Indy Colts to replace Coyer. He was fired an hour ago. That is rumor that I have officially started right here. We (CBP) better damn make sure it is broke before he trys to fix it because change does not mean we go undefeated. If it simply matter of CBP wanting new defensive schemes or recruit different type of defense players, I am sure he has told WR, if WR is not adhering to CBP's desires; CBP would have let him or go, or will let him go at the end of his evaluations.

Good advice to Jordan. I served a short stint in US Navy and I am always thankful for those that serve and their loyalty \ commitment for the country. Up,up way above Hog Heaven. DaFuture and HogA hit that one squarely on the head. Nice [second] post, Jordan. Otherwise, in my opinion, your comments are enjoyed and most welcome, here.

On a related note, with a [re]invented OL, experienced QB, gifted WRs, folks like Chris Smith, T. Wright and some other defensive guys returning, as well as a talented and now seasoned group of redshirt freshman - not to mention what eventually becomes of recruiting - Les Miles had better be prepared for some serious WTF expressions, about this time, next year.

HogAuthority says...

@DaFuture, I don't think I would get nearly as much love as Wally :-) My downfall may very well be having too much admiration for what Petrino & Long has done for the program thus far. I think Anderson will join that company in few years.

If CBP were to decide to make a change and bring in Kirby Smart, you think we will have haters now? No way he leaves Bama for same job here. National media would accuse us of foul play.

I just don't think anyone outside of CBP can say that a new DC will make the difference they expect (win NC). If CBP make change then he does so for reason that he believe for a change, but to change for the sake of change, appeasement or because of stats is a calculated risk. I coach my daughter's BBall team and we had a few losses. Some may argue that if they had Coach K they would win the Girls 7th Grade Championship. I don't think so. But nonetheless every missed shot, travel etc is bad coaching on my part. But when we win, we simply have talented girls. I don't have CBP's contract, but while he may get a bonus for NC, he will not be fired for not winning NC. He can be fired if the wheels fall off. At his level it has got to be a steady as you go type of deal. Look at all the changes Mack Brown made last year out of desperation. They are only a couple of games better than that horrible last year. Smart move would be to pump Willy up and maybe he gets Head Coach job some place as I am sure he would like to escape the noise?

Sorry for getting in late on this and I am sure many of my hog fans have stated this already but here it goes:

Knowing how Petrino handled the end of the game last year and what happened last week I know have a better idea of why he reacted the way he did.

Critics, talk show hosts, people can say what they want about Petrino and his actions because it is easy to do when not in that position but I challenge any one of them to see what their reactions might be if they were actually the coach. If they are passionate about their job, love their team and players it is very easy to react this way. I have seen many of the best do this before I thought nothing of it because we are not in that position.
It does further fuel my hatred for the mad hater none as classLESs Miles!!!

I agree nwaloaner and I guarantee that anybody with half a braim knows that Petrino could take LSU or Bama and do as well or better than Miles or Saban. Anybody on this forum could take those two teams and win 70% of their games. And it's not like you have to beg recruits to come there either.

I would rather have our guy anyday. But nobody is perfect and with that said I do think our defense could be more ferocious. Is that bashing Willy and wanting him gone? No, just think the D needs a little more polishing, a little more time at the drawing board. Maybe just recruit bigger faster stronger kids or maybe there is more we can get out of what we got. I don't have the answer but I've seen us play 12 games and have made an observation that on that side of the ball we could be faster and tougher and more fundamentally sound.

Go Hogs.

(1) I think Bobby Petrino is a great coach and am glad he is at Arkansas, (2) I do wish Petrino would stop screaming at Tyler Wilson everytime something goes wrong, Wilson deserves more respect than that imo, (3) Les Miles is an ass clown, and (4) I have no problem with how LSU played the 4th quarter, they are playing for a national championship and were playing the #3 team in the nation. If we can't handle that, then we have no business being on the field imo. I've certainly watched games in which Arkansas didn't stop passing after getting a big lead. So you don't need to complain about LSU in this situation unless you want to look like a little girl.
