Razorbacks ready for 2nd scrimmage

— The Arkansas Razorbacks will work through their second major scrimmage of the spring this afternoon at Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

The Razorbacks’ workout, which will be open to the public, is scheduled to start about 3:50 p.m. with warm ups and a few position drills before the scrimmaging begins, likely around 4:30 p.m.

One of the biggest question about the scrimmage: Where will ace tailback Knile Davis be used in full contact work?

Davis, who is coming off ankle surgery in 2011, did not participate in tackling in last Friday’s scrimmage, but the junior said he’s ready to hit when the coaches let him.

Coach Bobby Petrino, who was involved in a one vehicle motorcycle accident Sunday, watched workouts Tuesday and Wednesday in the press box. He was placed on administrative leave by Athletic Director Jeff Long late Thursday night. Petrino, who is wearing a neck brace, has a chipped C2 vertebrae and four broken ribs.

Tyler Wilson and the first-team offense scored on seven of 10 possessions last weekend, with Wilson completing 19 of 28 passes for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Brandon Allen and Brandon Mitchell split the quarterback work with the second unit, which found the going much tougher against the No. 2 defense. Allen and Mitchell combined on an eight-play, 75-yard touchdown drive - capped by Mitchell’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Marquel Wade - on their first sequence. But they combined for just one more scoring drive, with Allen directing a 60-yard march capped by Dennis Johnson’s 12-yard touchdown run.

Today’s scrimmage will mark the eighth practice of 15 for the Razorbacks this spring, culminating in the Red-White game at 2 p.m. April 21.
