Evans opens recruiting, eyes Hogs

Defensive lineman Craig Evans of Sun Prairie, Wis. is a prospect the Hogs hope to land in the 2014 class.

Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema received a commitment from junior defensive lineman Craig Evans in September while at Wisconsin and may have a shot at him again since Evans has reopened his recruiting.

Evans, 6-3, 325, 5.0 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin gave a strong endorsement of the recruiting skills of Hog defensive line coach Charlie Partridge in Sunday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. With Bielema and Partridge in Fayetteville, he hopes to visit in the future.

"I still want to go down and see what kind of place Arkansas is and see if it's a great fit for me or not," Evans said. "There will be a bunch of little things I'll have to decide on whether I want to go there or not."

Evan said he felt he rushed into his decision to pledge to the Badgers and is planning to take the process much slower before making another commitment. He has a list of things he'll be checking out.

"See how I fit with the people and see what kind of connections I have with the coaches and some of the players and other recruits they have coming in and see what type of an environment there is," Evans said. "See how they let their D-linemen roam and what they expect out of their D-linemen and see how quick I can go to the big leagues if I go there. What are my chances of starting when I get there?"

A 320 pound bench presser, Evans is looking to study business management in college and eventually have his own business. The engaging and well mannered Evans credits his aunt for his people skills.

"My aunt always taught me to always be humble and let God take care of us," Evans said. "I stay respectful to my elders and my peers."
