Razorbacks sign 24 on Wednesday
Wednesday, February 1, 2012
FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas' football program signed 24 players to the class of 2012 on Wednesday.
The Razorbacks signed 12 players on offense and 12 on defense. As of Wednesday afternoon, the class was ranked No. 21 nationally by Scout.com, with seven Southeastern Conference programs ranked ahead of the Razorbacks by the scouting service.
Wednesday was the first day high school seniors could sign letters of intent with their future schools. Arkansas could potentially sign up to two more players in the 2012 class.
Despite back-to-back double-digit win seasons and a No. 5 ranking in the 2011 polls, Arkansas did not sign any of the nation's top 100 recruits on Wednesday.
Dorial Green-Beckham, the consensus No. 1 recruit in the country, signed with Missouri on Wednesday morning. Arkansas had been thought to be the wide receiver's potential destination until earlier this week.
Running back Jonathan Williams (Allen, Texas), wide receiver Keon Hatcher (Owasso, Okla.), and defensive ends Deatrich Wise (Lewisville, Texas) and Taiwan Johnson (Manvel, Texas) were the Razorbacks' top-rated signees.
Arkansas was able to sign a pair of players who had been committed to other SEC schools in the last two days. Linebacker Otha Peters decommitted from Tennessee and defensive tackle Darius Philon decommitted from Alabama.
Offensive lineman Jeremy Ward (Pottsville), tight end Jeremy Sprinkle (White Hall), safety Defonta Lowe (Bearden) and linebacker A.J. Turner (East Poinsett County) signed with the Razorbacks from the state of Arkansas.
Arkansas also re-signed Demetrius Dean, who attended junior college last season after signing with the Razorbacks last February. Dean, a tight end, played at Fayetteville High School.
Six of the Razorbacks' signees were from the state of Texas and three from Oklahoma.

Only 4 instate players with talent and grades to be Hogs. That makes it much tougher to have top ten class than most every other SEC school. Congratulations to CBP and staff for filling needs to go with talent already on campus. Hogs will be contenders as long as we have the best coach in America as da Head Hog! WPS!

Stars, recruiting ranking, phooey. Who finished No. 5 last year? Who's bringing back a skilled, senior quarterback, a running back ready to have an outstanding season and a receiver corps that just reloads rather than rebuild (Missou, you'll need all the help you can get - welcome to the SEC)?
I rest my case. Time to move on and prep for spring ball.

I think when all is said and done(2-3 years down the road), this will be one of the best classes in the nation! Out of curiosity, did anyone else notice that the picture above is still showing Courtney Gardner? Maybe we can get that replaced with someone who actually signed to be a Hog!!!

It's shocking and very surprising that Arkansas' recruiting class is ranked 8th in the conference. I don't get it. What is it about Arkansas that turns off recruits? I don't see how we can ever win a national championship or even the conference with these kind of recruiting classes.
