HHow can it be a tough ticket to get when there are empty seats?? They never sell out...

DiversityMatters says...

You talk about a tough ticket...my brother and I were outside WWS (I'm active duty Army...brother retired Navy) with a big sign in hand identifying ourselves as military, how far we had travelled and how badly we wanted to see this game inside WWS...had big cash in hand...and got no takes...nobody would come off those tickets...not even for veterans (LOL)...but to travel 11.5 hours just to go back to our hotel and watch the game on the tube was very sad...no game should be that hard to buy tickets...heck, you could still buy tickets to the Super Bowl (that was here in Indy) on the streets even after the game started...but, I digress...we went to Fayetteville (almost the same driving time) and less than 30 minutes, the four of us were able to get great seats for the first game of this past season...so if we're gonna drive 11+ hours, at least give me a chance to buy some tickets...with that said, I am glad to see the game being moved and now we can start saving to go to Fayetteville with a chance of seeing this game in house while I'm on leave...if this game would have stayed in LR, no way were we going to drive that far just to watch it in our room again...

The title of this blog sounds arrogant? Where are the Editors?

It should read "UA took LSU; for 2 games to stay, new stadium now a necessity"

Nothing comes to sleepers but a dream; Central Arkansas (LR) has been dreaming far too long. There is no MUST; and no obligation beyond the contract. Common sense will prevail. I look forward to reading the article "Like it is" that calls out each and every leader of Central Arkansas (LR) with a hand in this travesty of inaction while attempting to hold the UA hostage on 50 year old sentiment. Or is it the "Like it is" articles of old have gone into sleep mode as well? Replaced by "Like I want it"?

When you have a top notch stadium, with 70,000 plus seats, then maybe. Otherwise, it hurts recruiting and the program. Central Ark arrogance.

HonestAbeHog says...

After discussion I'm inclined to say the UofA needs to keep "ONLY ONE" football game a season IN LITTLE ROCK...and that should NOT be an SEC game. Little Rock games hurt our recruiting (compared to Fayetteville trips).

And recruiting is the "life's blood" of college football programs today. IN FAYETTEVILLE our football recruiting facilities are about to become one of the nation's best.

.......The new Razorback football complex will be completed in the Fall of 2013. ,,,,,,,,"COME ON DOWN" football recruits. We are ready to show you "The Best Football Facilities" on your recruiting visits in Fayetteville!!

TexasTushHog says...

The state legislature can solve this whole situation by mandating an Arkansas-ASU game in WMS each year and make that the only WMS game. It will sell out and both schools can claim it as a home game and entertain recruits. If ASU ever wants to build a legitimate D-1 school they can beat the Hogs.I know the UofA will go ballistic thinking about it but it would put an end to the GSD once and for all.

HonestAbeHog says...

Why can't Central Arkansas University with it's new "potent" offense PLAY ONE GAME A YEAR at War Memorial Stadium in L.R.? Central Ark Univ should play at least one game at WMS.

Why can't Arkansas State University with it's new potent offensive Coach Malzahn play AT LEAST ONE GAME A YEAR at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock? CAN'T ASU STAND ON THEIR OWN?.....ASU should do it for any opponent.....Is the U of A the only state university willing to make the trip for Little Rock and WMS?.....(againist an opponent of each university's own choice!)

Do the Arkansas Razorbacks have to "carry" ASU at WMS or can ASU stand on their own in WMS?

NWFloridaHog says...

The one thing everyone needs to remember is the HOGS belong to the State and not just NW ARK. I think it was a great move to take the LSU game to RRS and move Ole Miss to LR. I grew up in SE Ark and would have never been able to see a HOG game growing up if there were no games in LR. There needs to be one SEC game in LR and Ole Miss being the game is perfect, especially for those from SE Ark. As for ARK v A State worst thing that could happen for the state. Everyone pulls for both schools right now and UA has nothing to gain by playing A-State. A-State has nothing to lose with this contest. The legislature needs to stay out of it all together. WPS!

honestabehog, you want ASU to "help out" the U of A by playing one game each year at WMS? Yeah, that makes alot of sense. Especially considering how eager Ark is to "help out" ASU. This is one of your dumbest posts, of which there are many to choose from.

February 21, 2012 at 1:10 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

HonestAbeHog says...

rlw59, you A-State fans can't see the truth for the big noses on your faces.
Ark State needs to be for helping out WMS and Little Rock by playing one of "their" games there! Leave the University of Arkansas out of it.

Think only of ASU (by themselves) doing the "right thing" for the state of Arkansas and Little Rock...
(you say you don't want to help the U of A "in any way"). That's very selfish logic for you ASU fans. I bet ASU playing in LR will happen after ASU leaders get over the shock of carrying the LR game all by themselves.

HogAuthority says...

Tush & leave it as it is folks.

U missing the point. UA don't want and can't any longer recruit in that dilapidated WMS Stadium. Getting Legislature involved is proof of weakness and pathetic thinking of central Arkansas. Some are not visionary enough to understand that the UA has grown beyond the current facilities. UA don't need ASU to get a sellout in LR or anyplace else for that matter. UA needs showplaces or palaces to boast the program as one of top 5 in the USA (not just Arkansas). Facilities being built in Fayetteville and Jerry's World represent that. I am going to speculate that by the time A&M & Hogs resume in Dallas; it will be home game to bring in recruits.

I reference my above post. In a real sense, the only real problem is massive failure of LR leadership to act. Texas Legislature tried to do similar with SWC and Bevo league breakups, how did that turn out? The UA is a State school that is bringing money for the UA System. Ask the President & Board of Directors for the UA System. It is NOT just the people in Fayetteville. They represent the State and do it well. WMS represents poorly of Central Arkansas. I am not saying let it go and not put up a fight. I am saying do something and quit whining /complaining about about what my alma mater is doing to you. IT IS NOT WHAT THE UA IS DOING TO CENTRAL ARK, IT WAS CENTRAL ARK HAS NOT DONE FOR THEMSELVES. Instead of raising the LR - WMS Bar, some prefer that they continue to drag down the UA program with do nothing status quo. I am sorry but it is sickening and old. Good thing the brass running UA Systems are moving forward.

sportscantw8 says...

The reality is this: 70,000+ Fayetteville
50,000+ Little Rock
Do the math and recruiting is just a bonus. The long term plan is to ad another 15,000-20,000 in Fayetteville. The program is growing as is the college and alumni base. If games to be held in little rock there may never be an expansion of don roynolds stadium in fayetteville. The hogs will always be Arkansas team but the growth opportunity is in Fayetteville. Take the emotion out of the decision and it becomes much simpler.

StLouisHog says...

When the 2016 contract runs out, all home football games should be moved to Fayetteville. It makes absolutely no sense for the football program to take two (2) financial hits each year just to keep these games in LR. I love WMS and am sorry to see the Hogs stop playing there, but it no longer makes any sense to play in LR.

ua87, (you are an ASU fan) do you remember your post about WMS in Little Rock on
"The Slophouse" with Matt Jones --

Your ua87 Post, February 8, 2012 at 10:40 am on The Slophouse, is reprinted here below:

"Give WMS and its expansion plans to Arkansas State. UAB plays at Legion Field in Birmingham. If you think that situation has hurt Saban and the Tide in recruiting, lost revenue and anything else, you are what Ron White refers to when he says, “you can’t fix stupid.” (said ua87)

"Expansion also needs to be funded by private entities, not the taxpayers." (said ua87)

How in the world can anyone want to bring the legislature into the business of setting schools' schedules? This is insanity. The gov't. is already intruding into our daily lives much more than it should. Are you in favor of the legislature setting the curriculum for schools also?

@abe,

I have been calling him the Red Lone Wolf. He is a typical Troll but deep inside I sense he like Hogs as well? However he only seems to post when he has venom to spew or to campaign on on his pipe dream of ASU versus Arkansas matchup. I know his feeling :-) a la Tiger Woods is a coward because he won't play me, and Beyonce; had she only just tried to go out with me... You want to be a big dog, be one and stop trying to ride someone else's back. I credit ASU for taking another good run on their own with Malzahn, and I hope they build off their own success (less Malzahn). If ASU mind their OWN Business; win their games the rest will take care of itself. There is never a need for the two schools to play football. i.e. Why don't ASU take their best home game right now and move it to Little Rock? Or better yet move two games to LR? I know it will be easier for me to make because it is closer than Jonesboro :-) But don't look for me though, WMS has served it's useful life. I am spoiled in these venues now. I want plush when I fork up about $800 to a grand for these games with my family.

I guess better late than never for my post and am not sure anyone will read. This subject has been beaten to the point of a dead horse. LSU is coming back to Fayetteville, a step in the right direction. UA may be the flagship university of the state but it is in Fayetteville, not LR. All games must eventually go to The Hill, deal with it. That means you too Wally, crusty curmugeon that you are. You and Bill McClellan of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch would get along handsomely.

Wow. I was just commenting on honestabehog's idea of "asu helping the hogs", and pointing out how ridiculous that is. Honestabe, sorry you got your panties all wadded up. For the record, I am an ASU fan AND a razorback fan also. I realize some of you are too narrow-minded to comprehend such a thing.

ASU is obviously not in Ark's class in any aport. They play in the sunbelt conference, not the SEC. I have at times said that if Ark is going to play sunbelt conference teams (as they will again in 2012 with la-monroe), i don't see why they can't play ASU instead. Yeah, i understand all of your frank broyles-minded arguments against it. And yes, it would help ASU much more than Ark if that game was played, which is why Ark won't do it. THAT WAS WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO when i said asu would be as eager to help out ark as vice versa.

Honestabe, i'm sorry you got so upset. Maybe you should go to McDonalds and get some french cries.
