Bowl game to War Memorial?

The governing body of War Memorial Stadium met Thursday afternoon to discuss the facilities recent fiscal status, with stadium expansion being a possible topic of discussion.

War Memorial Stadium Commissioner Kevin Crass talked Thursday afternoon about the possibility of bringing a bowl game to the stadium. While he said the stadium discussion is in it's infancy, UALR Athletic Director Chris Peterson is said to be heading the attempt to bring in the bowl.

While expansion was touched on, the board also presented the possibility of a postseason bowl game at War Memorial Stadium coming in the future.

Kevin Crass, Chairman of the War Memorial Stadium Commission, said that talks of a game coming to Little Rock are in the preliminary stages, and the push for a game has been spearheaded by University of Arkansas-Little Rock Athletic Director Chris Peterson.

While nothing is near being finalized in the discussion, the game could possibly be called the "Rice Bowl", Crass said, with teams from the Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA being pointed out as possible candidates for getting the tie-in to the bowl.

The thought of a bowl game is positive news for Crass and the board. However, he added that with so much on the agenda of the board and the stadium — including discussions of stadium expansion — an actual plan for bringing a bowl to Little Rock might have to wait a few years.

There are currently 35 bowls in the Football Bowl Subdivision's postseason system.
