Arkansas and Southern Miss will play a football game at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Sept. 14, 2013, according to a release Thursday.

The meeting will be the first between the Razorbacks and the Golden Eagles, which won the Conference-USA championship last season.

"We look forward to the challenge of going to Fayetteville in 2013 to face a strong Southeastern Conference opponent in the University of Arkansas," Southern Miss athletics director Jeff Hammond said in a release announcing the game. "Playing quality opponents it helps with our national exposure as well as a new regional rivalry that allows our fan base an opportunity to see their team play."

Southern Miss, which is located in the southern Mississippi city of Hattiesburg, is coached by Ellis Johnson, who spent less than a month as Arkansas' defensive coordinator in 2008. Johnson left for South Carolina at the time and was hired by the Golden Eagles following last season.

The game is the third known date for the Razorbacks in 2013. Arkansas will travel to Rutgers on Sept. 21 and host Texas A&M in Fayetteville on Sept. 28 of that year.
