OBU to play for title

Sarah Broyles’ goal in the 78th minute gave Ouachita Baptist a 1-0 victory over East Central (Okla.) in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament on Friday in Weatherford, Okla.

The Lady Tigers (10-7-1) will play top-seeded and host Southwestern Oklahoma State (18-0-1) in the final at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Southwestern Oklahoma State beat Harding (7-9-2) 4-0 in the other semifinal Friday.

Hendrix falls in tournament

The Hendrix College men’s best season in school history came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Millsaps College on Friday in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

Hendrix ended the season 10-6-3, setting a program high for victories. Its eight shutouts were also a school record.

Senior Connor Silvestri scored in the fourth minute to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead, his 44th of the season, which is a school record.

Hayden Baker scored a goal in the 19th minute for Milsaps and Trey Fontaine scored the game-winner in the 86th minute.

BASKETBALL

Jefferson, Bozeman selected in draft

Former Arkansas Razorbacks guard Dontell Jefferson and former UALR guard Solomon Bozeman were selected in the NBA Development League draft Friday night.

Jefferson, who played at Arkansas in 2004-2006, was selected with the fifth pick in the sixth round by the Reno Bighorns.

Bozeman, who was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in 2011, was selected with the next pick by the Tulsa 66ers.

Limo honored by Southland

Central Arkansas freshman Edward Limo was named the Southland Conference Male Newcomer of the Year on Friday.

Limo, from Eldoret, Kenya, is the first UCA runner to claim the award. He was a first-team All-Southland after finishing eighth in the Southland Conference Championships in 24 minutes, 24.1 seconds in the 8K race.

Junior Amos Gerber, who finished seventh in the conference meet at 24:14.7, was also named to the first team.

VOLLEYBALL

Hendrix falls, season ends

Hendrix lost 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 to Centre College in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament on Friday in Mount Berry, Ga., ending its season with a 13-18 record.

Junior Katie Burchfield led Hendrix with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Melissa Clement added 10 kills.

Senior middle blocker Melissa Clement was named to the All-SAA first-team when honors were announced Friday, while freshman Jill Sikes was named to the second team. Clement ended her career as the Warriors career record holder in kills (1,307) and blocks (344).

Sikes led the SAA with 476 digs.

UAM tops Union

Arkansas-Monticello posted a season-high .301 hitting percentage in a 20-25, 25-12, 24-26, 25-21, 19-17 victory over Union University on Friday in Jackson, Tenn.

Senior Amy Kleypas led UAM (11-21) with 21 kills with 12 digs and Holly Schweigert had 11 kills against Union (4-23).
