Arkansas’ promising opening drive was snuffed by a Jason Peacock holding penalty and an illegal formation that wiped out a 40-yard Cobi Hamilton catch. The Gamecocks converted third-and-14, then scored on Connor Shaw’s 29-yard pass on second-and-15 to unguarded tight end Jerell Adams over the middle. Jadeveon Clowney dropped Tyler Wilson for a 6-yard sack. Trey Flowers and Byran Jones buried Kenny Miles on third down to force a South Carolina punt. Clowney was penalized shoving Wilson on an incomplete pass to move the Hogs near midfield as the quarter ended.

2nd QuarterSOUTH CAROLINA 21, ARKANSAS 10

The Hogs drove 64 yards to the 5, where Dennis Johnson lost a fumble on third-and-1. A.J. Turner sacked Connor Shaw at the 3, and Arkansas took over at the 50. Tyler Wilson was nailed on his 6-yard touchdown pass to Keon Hatcher. The Gamecocks got 50 yards on a fade for Bruce Ellington with Ross Rasner’s late hit on Shaw added, and Shaw ran 10 yards to score on third-and-6. Three plays of 18-plus yards put Arkansas at the 3, but the Hogs settled for a 20-yard field goal. Shaw hit wide-open Ellington on fourth-and-5 and he swerved past Rohan Gaines for a 42-yard touchdown. Wilson was sacked on the last two plays of the half.

3rd QuarterSOUTH CAROLINA 38, ARKANSAS 13

Three plays of at least 10 yards set up Adam Yates’ 41-yard field goal for South Carolina to open the half.

The Hogs were on the move, helped by consecutive 15-yard penalties against South Carolina, when D.J.

Swearinger grabbed a Tyler Wilson pass and returned it 69 yards for a score. Alex Voelzke had a 22-yard grab and Jonathan Williams a 19-yard run and the Hogs settled for Zach Hocker’s 21-yard field goal after facing fourth down at the 3. South Carolina answered with a touchdown, Mike Davis capping the 74-yard march with a 2-yard score. Wilson was called for a 16-yard intentional grounding to scuttle a series.

4th QuarterSOUTH CAROLINA 38, ARKANSAS 20

Jared Green got a 9-yard sack of Connor Shaw, but Mike Davis converted third-and-18 with a 20-yard run. Tevin Mitchel posted his first career interception on Shaw’s throw in the end zone. Arkansas couldn’t get a first one, and Steve Spurrier called on Dylan Thompson to replace Shaw with about 10 minutes left. Adam Yates missed wide right on a 52-yard field-goal attempt. Wilson stayed in the game and threw a deep-ball interception to Akeem Auguste. Wilson moved the Hogs 58 yards on their final series, finding Demetrius Wilson for his first career touchdown catch from 9 yards out.
