Both teams had time-consuming drives for touchdowns on their first possessions. Mississippi State went 3 for 3 on third-down conversions on its 15-play drive, capped by LaDarius Perkins’ 13-yard touchdown catch against the right sideline. Tyler Wilson went 6 for 6 on Arkansas’ opening drive, with Cobi Hamilton catching three passes for 45 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown. Safeties Eric Bennett and Ross Rasner swarmed Perkins for a 5-yard loss, then Chris Smith sacked Tyler Russell on third down to force a punt. Wilson’s 7-yard throw to Hamilton converted third-and-1 on the final play of the quarter, which Wilson finished 7 of 7 for 76 yards.

2nd Quarter

MISSISSIPPI STATE 17, ARKANSAS 14

The Hogs finished up a 10-play drive on which Mekale McKay had two catches, with Dennis Johnson’s 7-yard catch making it 14-7. Arkansas forced a punt, but Kaelon Kelleybrew misplayed it and the Bulldogs recovered at the Arkansas 28. Tevin Mitchel’s pass breakup on third down made Mississippi State settle for a 39-yard field goal. The Bulldogs had three big gains on a five-play series and Chad Bumphis had a 6-yard scoring catch for a 17-14 lead. The Arkansas sideline got a dead-ball 15-yard penalty. Will Hines forced a fumble that Mitchel recovered at the Arkansas 7. Tyler Wilson was sacked after Johnson’s 20-yard run to stop a drive.

3rd Quarter

MISSISSIPPI STATE 31, ARKANSAS 14

Three turnovers in the quarter doomed Arkansas, which ran four plays in Bulldogs territory. Jamerson Love intercepted Tyler Wilson, though Arkansas held in its territory. Backup quarterback Dak Prescott ran 4 yards on fourth-and-1 for the Bulldogs to score. Wilson’s up-the-middle scramble on fourth-and-8 came up a yard short at the Mississippi State 32. Jonathan Williams fumbled right into the arms of Bulldogs linebacker Cam Lawrence at the Arkansas 37. LaDarius Perkins caught his second touchdown pass on a wheel route. Javontee Herndon had a 23-yard catch-and-run play, then was stripped and lost a fumble at the Arkansas 45 on the next snap.

4th Quarter

MISSISSIPPI STATE 45, ARKANSAS 14

The Bulldogs needed four plays to score after Javontee Herndon’s fumble, with Tyler Russell hitting Chad Bumphis for his fourth touchdown throw. An illegal-block penalty forced Arkansas to start at its 8, but the Hogs reached the 40 three plays later on Tyler Wilson’s 20-yard pass to Cobi Hamilton. Two plays later, Darius Slay intercepted Wilson’s deep pass and returned it into Arkansas territory. A penalty pushed the Bulldogs back 15 yards, but on the next snap, Nick Griffin ran 60 yards for a score. Wilson took another shot to his hip on a sack. The Bulldogs took 7:58 on a 13-play, 69-yard drive. Brandon Allen took the final two snaps at quarterback for Arkansas.
