Cal commit looking for an Arkansas offer

COURTESY PHOTO: Kevin Peoples, shown prior to Arkansas' game against Texas A&M in 2010, was promoted to a full-time assistant after spending two seasons as the Razorbacks' director of high school relations.

Junior college defensive lineman Maurice Bennett is committed to California but should Arkansas offer a scholarship those plans would likely change.

Bennett, 6-3, 293, 4.9 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of East Mississippi Community College has been in contact with defensive tackles coach Kevin Peoples.

"Coach Peoples was interested in me so I sent them film," Bennett said. "They like my high school film. So I?m going to send my film from East Mississippi."

The Bears fired coach Jeff Tedford on Nov. 21 and that has Bennett somewhat confused on where he stands.

"They called me today Tuesday," Bennett said. "They still want me even though some of the coaches have left, They want me to send transcripts over again to make sure I?m going to go there. So I guess the offer is still there."

If the Hogs offer, Bennett said he'll likely take it.

"High interest, very high interest," said Bennett, who ran his 40 time at a Mississippi State camp while attending Madison Central High School. "My main goal was and still is to play in the SEC."

Bennett, who plans to graduate in December, is looking to play on the next level but has plans if that goal falls through.

"My first goal is go on to the NFL," Bennett said. "But if not that I want to get to a four-year university and become a physical therapist."
