Day posts nationally ranked SPARQ rating

Arkansas running back commitment Juan Day of North Little Rock.

North Little Rock running back Juan Day scored a SPARQ rating of 107.55 at the Dallas Nike Football Combine on Saturday but a day later he bettered that with a 126.60 at the Nike Camp.

Day, 6-1, 209, 4.5 seconds in the 40 yard dash, is second in the nation among running backs nationally in the SPARQ ratings. His teammate and cornerback Kavin Alexander scored a 148.17 rating at the Nike Football SPARQ Combine on Saturday to receive an invite to The Opening at Nike World Headquarters June 30-July 3.

The Arkansas commitment posted the score while carrying extra weight on Sunday.

"I don't know what happen but I gained three pounds the next day," Day said. "I knew I could've done better on my pro-agility. I was sliding on the turf on Saturday and then the next day I was more focused . I went from a 4.5 to a 4.00. I was more focused on my technique."

He also improved his Power Ball toss from 43 feet to 45 after receiving some advice from his teammate and center Curtis Parker, who recorded a toss of 53 feet on Saturday.

"Before I threw I took some of his advice and I increased it." Day said.

Day, who rushed 115 times for 930 yards and 13 touchdowns in nine games as a junior, was able to increase his SPARQ rating despite being on his feet for a long period of time on Saturday.

"I was really motivated because I knew there were some top running backs there," Day said. "I just wanted to prove I could be just as good as them. I went out there and worked harder the next day."

He recorded a 4.72 laser time in the 40 yard dash and a 34.6-inch vertical on Sunday. He plans to attend the Nike Camp in Memphis on Sunday in hopes of joining Alexander at The Opening.

"I'm going to try and get MVP of the running backs and hopefully I'll get invited then." he said.
