Weems scores 19 in Euroleague playoff game

Sonny Weems led his team in scoring in the first game of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague playoffs Wednesday.

Weems scored 19 points, including four 3-point baskets, and CSKA Moscow defeated Caja Liboral Vitoria 89-78 in the first game of a best-of-five series.

According to the Euroleague website, Weems hit back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the second half and helped seal the game with another long-range shot in the fourth quarter.

The former Toronto Raptors forward is averaging a team-high 14.2 points per game this season and is shooting 42.5 percent beyond the arc.

In three seasons in the NBA, Weems averaged 7.7 points in 20.3 minutes per game before deciding to play in Europe. The West Memphis native left the NBA in 2011.

At Arkansas, he averaged 13.4 points per game in two years after transferring from Arkansas-Fort Smith. Arkansas beat Indiana 86-72 in the First Round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament behind Weems' 31 points on 12-of-14 shooting.

Weems and CSKA Moscow will return to the hardwood Friday for the second game of its playoff series.
