Hawks' Ross on Arkansas' radar

Jonesboro’s Kahron Ross (center), a 5-11 point guard who is being recruited by Arkansas, will be on the court for the Arkansas Hawks in the Real Deal in the Rock today through Sunday at locations throughout Little Rock.

The start of the spring basketball didn't go as planned for the Arkansas Hawks as they lost 57-48 to the Mac- Irwin Fire Friday night in Real Deal in the Rock basketball tournament in Central Arkansas.

"I think we were a little timid," said Hawks point guard Kahron Ross, who scored 15 points. "It was our first game playing together We couldn't make the shots I think we would've been better off going to the rim instead of settling but think we should have a good spring."

Ross, 5-11, 150 pounds of Jonesboro reports scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Southeast Missouri State, Arkansas- Little Rock and Lehigh while also hearing from Arkansas and Tennessee.

"I love Arkansas," Ross said. "They play the same way we play up and down 40 minutes of hell. The same stuff we do I like their program."

Bill Ingram, the executive director of Real Deal in the Rock and chairman of the Arkansas Hawks, said Ross needs to get bigger and stronger.

"If that's your weakest spot normally a good college weight program game can fix that," Ingram said. "He has a high skill level, great knowledge of the game."

Ingram said Ross is a gym rate, great in the classroom and most importantly coachable.

"If you look at lot of the kids today they're not coachable," Ingram said. "If you jump on them they get an attitude Kahron takes that chewing and keeps moving. Those are the guys you have to have to win with because they're not going to get rattled on the road. You get a bunch of these knuckleheads they're going to get rattled on the road."

The quick and fearless Ross stays in touch with Arkansas associate head coach Melvin Watkins and assistant coach Matt Zimmerman.

"Coach Watkins will send me a quote or something every other day, keep me updated," Ross said. "Coach Zimmerman will probably text me every week or something like that and keep me updated with their season."
