Arkansas coaches hit in-state schools

NWA Media/MICHAEL WOODS --03/30/2013-- University of Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema said at his first press conference the Hogs would make the state a priority and recruit the state first.

Arkansas coaches are spread out throughout the state to visit schools during the first day of the spring evaluation period in Operation New Era. Defensive coordinator Chris Ash and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge arrived at Springdale Har-Ber at 6 a.m. today. Wildcats' Coach Chris Wood said the two coaches visited with coaches for about 30 minutes and then watched an early morning workout.

Offensive coordinator Jim Chaney arrived at Rogers Heritage at 6:30 a.m. to watch quarterback Josh Qualls throw for about 30-40 minutes.

Cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson arrived at Springdale High School at 6:30 a.m. to check on athlete Deandre Murray and tight end Josiah Wymer, according to coach Shane Patrick. Ash arrived later after being at Springdale Har-Ber. Ash returned to the office at 8:30.

Johnson then arrived at Fayetteville High School about 7:45 before going back to the office at 8:30. With Ash and Johnson in the office two more coaches were allowed to go on the road. Seven coaches are allowed on the road at one time.

9:50 update

Offensive line coach Sam Pittman just left Pine Bluff High School after checking on 2015 tight end Will Gragg, kicker Austin McGehee and others. He will return in the afternoon for workouts, according to Coach Bobby Bolding.

Dumas offensive lineman Johnny Gibson said offensive line coach Sam Pittman will visit his school today.

Receivers coach Michael Smith will be at Texarkana, Texas, Liberty-Eylau to check on athlete Davion Hall, who plans to visit the Hogs for the spring game around 2 p.m. today, according to Coach Brian Brown.

Smith will visit Ashdown High School to check on athlete Devaughn Sanders this morning, according to Coach Matt Richardson.

Smith is also expected to visit Texarkana High School in Arkansas and Texas.

Arkansas coaches will visit 35 schools during the day.

West Memphis coach Lanny Dauksch said tight ends Coach Barry Lunney Jr. just left after checking on linebacker-fullback Jarvis Cooper.

Jonesboro coach Randy Coleman said Lunney will arrive at the school about 1:30 p.m. Defensive lineman Chuks Ota and several others will be the focus of Lunney.

Junction City Coach David Carpenter said defensive line coach Charlie Partridge will visit the school later today. The Dragons have promising sophomores in tight end and defensive lineman Jamario Bell, 6-6, 225, running back Jawqis Dancy, 5-11, 180, 4.4 and defensive lineman Taylor Manson, 6-3, 250.

Bell is considered one of the better athletes in the state.

Partridge will visit El Dorado to check on Hog commitment and defensive lineman Bijhon Jackson.

11:09 update

Coach Johnny Jackson of Strong said Partridge will visit the school to check on 2015 offensive and defensive lineman Devante Lovett, 6-5, 282 and 2014 athlete Jacoby Heard sometime today. Lovett turned heads at the Dallas Nike Combine with his size and athleticism. Jackson is also high on 2014 DB Tevion Hicks, 6-1, 180.

Parkers Chapel Coach James Housdan said Partridge will visit the school to check on offensive lineman Will Jones.

Fort Smith Southside Coach Jeff Williams said Chaney will be by the school about noon to evaluate quarterback Isaac Jackson.

11:40 update

Williams said Chaney left the school about 11:30. Very impressed with Chaney. Chaney appears to be heading to Charleston to evaluate 2015 quarterback Ty Storey.

Running backs coach Joel Thomas and linebackers coach Randy Shannon will visit North Little Rock high school for their 2:30 workout, said Coach Brad Bolding. Hog running back commitment Juan Day, cornerback Kavin Alexander and center Curtis Parker will be who they check on.

Other schools to be visited are Little Rock Catholic to evaluate tight end Aaron Hamaker, who has three offers and 2015 athlete D.J. Brown, Pulaski Academy for linebacker Tyler Colquitt and Little Rock Central for running back Logan Moragne.

12:24 update

Lunney tweeted he had left Barton high school about noon.

Chaney will be at Greenwood around 2 this afternoon to watch quarterback Jabe Burgess, according to a source at the school.

Pittman is also expected to stop by Star City to evaluate 2016 defensive lineman Austin Capps.

1:11 update

Fort Smith Northside Coach Mike Falluer said Chaney visited the school earlier today to check on several athletes, including 2015 defensive lineman Daytrieon Dean.

Dumas offensive lineman Johnny Gibson has made a 28 on his ACT test.

Pittman has visited and left Star City, according to Coach Blair Brown. He was there to evaluate highly regarded 2016 defensive lineman Austin Capps.

Chaney will arrive at Charleston high school between 4 and 4:30 to check on 2015 quarterback Ty Storey, said Coach Greg Kendrick.
