— Arkansas golfer Sebastian Cappelen defeated Steven Zychowski of Holy Cross in the first round of match play at the U.S. Amateur Championship in Brookline, Mass. on Wednesday.

Cappelen, the reigning SEC individual champion, beat Zychowkski 4 & 2 after finishing par on the 16th hole. Cappelen shot a 67 Tuesday to advance to the field of 64.

The senior never trailed during Wednesday's match play. He took a two-stroke lead after a birdie and Zychowski double-bogey on the sixth hole. Cappelen won when Zychowski double-bogeyed on 16.

Cappelen will face former Washington golfer Charlie Hughes in match play Thursday. Hughes won the B.C. Amateur Championship in July.

Earlier this month, Cappelen was a semifinalist at the Western Amateur at The Alotian Club outside of Little Rock.
