Arkansas is awaiting word of a decision from tight end Blake Whiteley, who officially visited the Hogs Thursday to Saturday.
Whiteley, 6-5, 240, 4.7, of Arizona Western Community College left Saturday morning for an official visit to Texas. He earlier visited Virginia and Purdue.
A midterm graduate, he’s not sure when he’ll make a decision and sign on the dotted line.
“I haven't made a deadline yet, but I would like to get it over when I can, quicker than later,” Whiteley said.
He disagreed with reports he was favoring the Longhorns.
“I never really said that, I don't know how that... a couple of people asked me about that,” Whiteley said. “I have been open about It the whole time.”
The traditional dinner at the Catfish Hole was a hit with Whiteley.
“It was awesome,” Whiteley said. “I didn't really know anything about that going into it so it was kind of a surprise, but was fun.”
He heard the fans use unique version of the Hog call.
“They said Woo Pig Sooie, Eh?” said Whiteley laughing.
Whiteley played at West Vancouver High School in British Columbia, Canada and as a senior he recorded 68 receptions for 1,118 yards and 16 touchdowns.
A full qualifier out of high school, he opted for junior college when he didn’t receive the looks he had hoped.
The trip to Fayetteville didn’t disappoint him.
“Stadium's great, the facilities are great, it's awesome here,” said Whiteley, who had 8 catches for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns this season in an offense that didn’t throw much to his position.“I liked pretty much everything that I saw. “
Whiteley called Coach Bret Bielema a “great guy” and someone who has sent several tight ends on to the next level. His lead recruiter, tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. also drew praise.
“We have had a strong relationship through the whole process from when they first started talking to me and came out to Arizona and met me,” said Whiteley, who will have four years to play three. “It has been strong the whole time.”
“Must have been close to two months ago,” Whiteley said.
