Marshall humbled by Hog offer
Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. visited Osceola ATH Korliss Marshall to inform him of his offer Wednesday.
Osceola athlete Korliss Marshall wasn't feeling well on Wednesday but a visit from Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. and conversation on the phone with Coach Bret Bielema made him well.
Marshall, 6-0, 190, 4.4 seconds in the 40 yard dash, was notified Lunney was on his way to the school and he anxiously waited to hear if he would get the long awaited offer from the Hogs.
Once Lunney arrived, he eventually put Marshall on the phone with Bielema, who offered him a scholarship.
"He told me they were given me an offer and I was quiet for a minute," said Marshall, who will arrive in Fayetteville today for an official visit. "I really didn't know what to say but I was happy. Coach noticed some of the facial expressions I had . It was just an honor."
Marshall, who rushed 129 times for 1,711 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior, could play on either side of the ball in college.
Osceola coach Russell Leggett recalled seeing a happy Marshall once he heard the good news.
"I hear Korliss go "really"," Leggett said. "His eyes got real big. He was sick. They had a basketball game the night before and he wasn't feeling very good but he started feeling pretty good real quick."
Marshall is looking forward to his visit and likely commitment to the Hogs.
"Everything seems to be falling into place right now," Marshall said. "First offer from a SEC school. That's real interesting because all of my offers have been division I AA and Division II schools So for Arkansas to offer me it was just an honor. I'm really proud of myself and proud of the people around me."
