Arkansas signed running back Ronnie Wingo Jr. in 2009 and now hopes to add his brother, Raymond to the 2014 class.
Wingo, 6-1, 164, 4.31 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of St Louis,(Mo.) University high school will likely be one of the more highly recruited prospects in the Midwest and in the nation. Arkansas was the first school to offer him a scholarship in September. He has since added offers from Missouri, Illinois and Iowa while drawing interest from Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska and others.
He's no stranger to Fayetteville after visiting numerous times to see his brother.
"I like the intense crowds," Wingo said. "The fans are crazy. I like that type of atmosphere."
Wingo was impressed that Coach Bret Bielema, offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Jim Chaney and defensive coordinator Chris Ash visited his school on Feb. 1, the same day the Hogs were to host four official visitors.
"I definitely want to visit." Wingo said.
In Tuesday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Wingo said he was impressed after speaking to his brother and was told he would be a Hog again despite his career not going as planned. He said that told him Arkansas was a great school
The hiring of Bielema from Wisconsin caught the attention of college football pundits and fans. Wingo's father is one of them.
"I heard from my dad that he was great guy and a great coach." Wingo said.
In addition to Arkansas, Wingo plans to visit Auburn, Alabama, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa and Nebraska. In the fall, he plans to take all five of his official visits.
Offensively, he rushed 142 times for 1,379 yards, 20 touchdowns and also had 11 receptions for 152 yards while playing quarterback, running back and receiver. As a defensive back, he recorded 23 tackles and 5 interceptions.
While a playmaker on either side of the ball, Wingo hopes to play cornerback on the next level.
"I want to play corner," said Wingo, who returned 24 kicks for 709 yards, a 29.54 average. "That's kind of like my second or third choice(offense). If I have to do I'll do it but I would rather focus on corner."
