Coach expects big things for Carson
Arkansas tight end coach Barry Lunney Jr. is expected to see Lakeside QB Garrett Carson in the spring.
Lakeside junior quarterback Garrett Carson has only started one season for the Rams but is one to watch for in the future, said coach Jared McBride.
"He's going to have a pretty good list of guys coming back in here in May during spring ball," McBride said of the spring evaluation period. "Louisiana Tech is really excited about him and so is Louisiana -Monroe."
Carson, 6-2, 218, 4.9 seconds in the 40 yard dash, will also see Arkansas tight end coach Barry Lunney Jr. come through for a spring practice to evaluate him, according to McBride.
"He said he was going to come in the spring in May and get a good look at him." said McBride
Decision making is also improving.
"He's starting to learn the game and understand there's more to it than just pick a guy and go," McBride said. "Of course, we're working on that. He's doing well in his leadership and taking charge of our offseason. If I was a betting man he's going to turn out be a really good one."
McBride, who the offensive coordinator from 2007-2009 at Fayetteville high school when Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen was the Bulldog signal caller, said Carson is qual to any of the quarterbacks he's coached.
Carson hit 158 of 275 passes for 2,067 yards and 22 touchdowns while only throwing 5 interceptions last season.
"He's not one that everybody knows right now," McBride said. "He's a good one. He has the skills for sure."
Ole Miss is a school also showing interest.
"He visited Ole Miss for a game," McBride said. "He likes those guys and they've kept in contact and an eye on him. I wouldn't doubt if he really took offer with some offers once spring time rolls around."
